When I checked the seats in my 03 C4S, I learned that the foam in the drivers seat needed to be replaced as well as the suspension web underneath.

The cushions have fitted canvas so that further limited my choices since I wanted to re-use the canvas..

Replacing these two was the first step in a total seat rebuild (also repaired the heaters and had the seat leather refinished).

I ended up using marine grade foam and it was a good move.

Suggestion
I would suggest to check the condition of the seat foam and suspension webbing first before considering other things.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So there are posts about making seats more sport like but how about more comfortable ? My 99 C4 seats need to be reupholstered and are 8 way adjustable . If I take them to a shop can they add foam and/or change the density to make them more comfortable ? Common sense says yes but I have never done this before.
Having bolsters just a little bigger for a quasi sport seat would be great . Nothing too radical needing metal addition and welding just additional foam . Not going to track just spirited mountain drives . Any of you guys/gals done this or had it done ? I am going to seek out some local shops and have a chat but getting a little smarter before going would be a good thing 😁
You know you want them😎
Ive had upholstery shop remove some foam from the seat in my 85 Carrera to help gain clearance for helmet. In turn it made the side bolsters taller relative to seat bottom. It worked. Youll just end up wanting more
More foam may make reusing the existing seat covers harder, would have to compress the foam. But, like you mentioned, visiting a good local upholstery shop would give you some options. I'm sure there is a solution. For my Recaro drivers seat i was able to slide a small foam pad under the seat cushion for a little more comfort on long drives. Maybe just buying a cushion to lay on top of the existing seat would help. But that would reduce the bolster effect.
Or do what 85eurocarrera did and go for it!
There is no reusing of these covers they are shot. So if I am going to have a shop make new covers I might as well go for some more comfortable and a little sportier . I will see what local shops say .
When I checked the seats in my 03 C4S, I learned that the foam in the drivers seat needed to be replaced as well as the suspension web underneath. The combination of these two having failed made for some very uncomfortable seats. Replacing these two was the first step in a total seat rebuild (also repaired the heaters and had the seat leather refinished).

I had the same issue with the driver's seat in my 2002 targa. The webbing broke which caused the cushion foam to tear. Even broke the seat frame underneath it.

Guys I appreciate the feedback on the broken webbing/foam . That is good info to know . When I eventually pull both seats that is something I will look for . Thank you
My 2....
As I finished restoring my 1954 Military Jeep I realized the seats, although serviceable, were going to be a significant source of pain while doing convoys. There is very little vertical room (I'm 6'2") nor horizontal room. The seats are fixed - permanently bolted to the floor. The cushions have fitted canvas so that further limited my choices since I wanted to re-use the canvas..
I ended up using marine grade foam and it was a good move. By ordering the firmest foam they provided me the best support and comfort. Your existing seat covers could be used as a pattern for the foam to be cut or you order the foam and have your local upholsterer use it. Total cost for re-foaming my 2 seats was $56. The company I used was
