Suggestion

It is very easy, I'd recommend some rust penetrating oil, replace the gaskets between the cat and the muffler, new bolts at the flanges and possible the slide clamps but they can be expensive ($50/each).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cats on my 01 C2 started making noise so I bought OEM replacements (used with 45k miles). is this a hard DIY for a guy with limited talent? How long should it take, whats the process and what other parts do I need? any good wrenches in NE Ohio want a side job? Thx!

POST 2Original post

Super easy, should take about 2 hours. You'll need a couple of 13mm wrenches for the flanges, a 17mm socket for the clamps and a 22mm open end wrench for the O2 sensors.. MAKE SURE YOU MARK YOUR O2 SENSORS as above and below cat, other wise you'll throw codes. Can be done without removing the bumper cover, but that only takes me 10 min at this point. I have to change from a FabSpeed x-pipe back to OEM every 2 years (Cali smog).

POST 4Original post

I took my mufflers off but not cats, it would have just been a few more bolts on each side. The worst part is dealing with the hardware, it gets terribly rusty. None of mine snapped thankfully but lots of penetrating oil helps.
