Based on my limited research I'm guessing my best bet is to replace the Nav with a cupholder, double DIN with apple play/andriod support and add a phone mount or change out the ashtray to hold my phone VS getting a bluetooth adapter for the stock.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So I just bought a 00 C4 Cabrio. I have some questions. The car came with navigation, and a cassette player (mix tape baby!), but no CD player. The navigation came up with a " needs CD error" when selected. There is a navigation disk player available (which doesn't play music CD's). I've found a thread where you can burn the navigation disk but I got the distinct impression the navigation was poor even for 2000. It does have a color screen and some sort of trip computer. I'd like to update things. My goals would be
1) Music- Ideally streaming. It doesn't have to be audiophile quality but I do want to be able to hear it with the top down at highway speeds
2) Navigation- I don't mind using my phone but I obviously need to see it. I prefer having the doubleDIN screen,
3) Voice- Voice texting and audio phone calls would be a plus but are not essential
4) Cup holder- I get thirsty. Don't judge
5) Ability to charge my phone
Below is a pic of my current console. I'm reasonably handy and have installed several stereos before

Alternatives? Am I missing something. Is the cupholder easy to find?
Thanks

Congrats on the car. There is a whole thread of radio upgrades. I just did it myself and it wasn't that bad! I also watched maybe 3 hours of videos/reading.

I would go with a standard double din display. That would have Bluetooth for audio, a USB you will feed through where you decide for apple carplay/android auto AND charge your phone. I added a cup holder in my center console. It kind of sucks honestly, since my console lid doesn't go all the way back.
Which double DIN and cup holder did you go with?
I have read that thread and searched out the various metra faceplates and wiring harnesses. Just wanted to make sure everything is copacetic before I start buying things. I especially wanted make sure I couldn’t use the existing Nav/display before pulling it out
thanks
M
I didn't - I went with one in the center console.

Metra kit and harness from Amazon worked fine for me. I don't know what your layout is...Mine was a single din radio, single din dual cup holder. It looks like it will fit fine though. Should take around 1-3 hours or so The upgrade total was about $500(?) and well worth it for me.
What is your nav unit now? I personally don't know the limitations of it, but I'm sure there is information somewhere on here.

Porsche has now its own double DIN upgrade called PCCM plus.

If you want to stay with a more time correct look and a single DIN format then the Blaupunkt Bremen SQR 46 DAB is one of the nicest options.

That cup holder looks way more practical. Does it interfere with your arm when you rest your shifting arm/shift.
I saw your post in the stereo thread. I had actually placed your metra faceplate and the harnesses you were going to use in my amazon cart.
Silk- Is the PCCM plus available in the US? I thought it hadn't been released yet?
Thanks
M
I wish that the PCCM plus for the 996 were available in the US. My dealer told me "later this summer".
That single DIN replacement option looks amazing. Any idea how much work it is to get that in a 996?
Congrats on the car. For all stereo/nav questions and solutions I recommend cai-store.com. They are experts in retro fitting more modern solutions to this platform. I installed a Kenwood setup I bought from them last year and it is awesome. Great customer service.
