Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Months later after my wife had used the passenger door often, that side regulator failed as well.
Leading evidence: 'Use passenger door often' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'microswitch, if it moves' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust 996 window im sure a thread will pop up' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suspected cause
If u dont get any window drop its probably a microswitch, if it moves but not enough its probably the regulator.

Suggestion
Make sure you disconnect the battery first - you don't want to accidentally set the door mounted airbag off (also if you unplug it with the battery connected you'll get an airbag light...).

Suggestion
Got tired of lowering the window before turning the car off and using the key to raise it again from outside and had my indy replace the window reg with OEM parts.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So I have been shopping for years and I have finally achieved my dream of getting into the 911. 2003 Carrera with 81k miles. It isn't perfect and needs a little TLC.
First thing I need help with is windows sticking. When I open the door, the windows bind and it take a little push to open. See image:
U will benifit from a Bently manual. A lot of factory preceedures for common issues. If u search for adjusting a 996 window im sure a thread will pop up. Its pretty simple after u pull the door card but i dont recall the details
Sounds like window is not dropping on door handle pull. As mentioned above, search and read trouble shooting guide as several different things must be working to make this work correctly.
I did this recently on my 99. You'll have to remove the door panel, next you will want to roll the window up but not all the way. You will want to roll it up to where you can access the bolts that hold the glass in place. Just loosen them and slide the glass forward a bit and adjust as needed. Just remove the rubber grommets to access the bolts like in the picture below
This is your issue. I had the same symptoms as you; my window would drop, just not enough. The cable on the regulator was - I don't want to say stretching - but wearing out and had some slop in it. There is a fix you can do with zip ties to add some tension to the cable but "while you're in there" you might as well replace the regulator. Welcome to old Porsches
If you're interested in the zip tie solution there was a thread here on RL years ago, you're gonna have to search for it.
Fyi the window drop us commanded by a mictoswitch, there r several in the door. If u dont get any window drop its probably a microswitch, if it moves but not enough its probably the regulator.
from the pic its out of alignment and hitting the frame, so u might have 2 seperate issues. Welcome to over complicated old porsches.
I am going to say its the regulator. I had the same issue. Can you move the window up or down by gripping the top of the glass and pulling up/pushing down?
You will be able to tell if there is slack in the old regulator that way.
You could go back and forth here forever (and you'll keep getting bits and pieces of the info you need)... There are two ways to get it done - DIY or take it to a shop. If you're going to DIY it, then you've gotten a good start - there's plenty of information both here and on the rest of the web. Pelican Parts has a bunch of info taken from the "101 Projects" books with photo's and procedures. If you plan on doing some/all of your own work it's a good book to have as well as the Bentley Service Manual (more expensive but worth every penny). *** If you're planning on DIY'ing (and saving tons of cash but spending way more time than you would have thought possible) get yourself a set of plastic interior tools and pop the door panel off - once you're in there it'll become pretty obvious what's going on. Make sure you disconnect the battery first - you don't want to accidentally set the door mounted airbag off (also if you unplug it with the battery connected you'll get an airbag light...). Good Luck
If the key is in the off positiin u wont get the airbag light. At least i didnt. I think its similar to the seat buckle. Just dont turn the key to the on position at any time while discoed.
When i bought my 03 4s in March 2019 the drivers window didn't drop when either inside/outside door handle was engaged, though the glass had a little play in it. The window would hit the other glass sometimes when trying to close it, but luckily no permanent damage occurred. Got tired of lowering the window before turning the car off and using the key to raise it again from outside and had my indy replace the window reg with OEM parts. Have never had an issue since. Months later after my wife had used the passenger door often, that side regulator failed as well. This is very common as these cars sit for years with minimal usage and then a new owner comes along and begins opening/closing the doors often. The regulator basically dries out and gets stretched. Every new 996 buyer should be prepared for this maintenance item sooner than later.
Good luck
Thank you for that insight. When I bought the car I was already ready to do the window regulators and other maintenance. It is what helped me drop the price of the car tremendously.
This is gold. I had forgotten this detail but this is a surefire way of diagnosing slack without taking anything apart.
Sounds like it may be an alignment issue on the driver's door and a worn out regulator on the passenger. The alignment must be performed on new regulators, anyway. I've done both of mine and they definitely don't just line up perfectly after you bolt them in. This makes me wonder if someone hadn't already replaced the driver door regulator and just didn't perform the alignment correctly. As other members have stated - german cars and window regulators are notorious "frenemies"
