Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Reported cause
My factory head unit was not a PCM unit; it was the CDR-220 unit.
Leading evidence: 'cdr-220 unit' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'cdr-220 unit' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Install by way of audio equipment/pcm' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

From what I've read, the dashboard displays all this info regardless of what's fitted by way of audio equipment/PCM.

Surely someone has swapped their ageing PCM with a newer Double DIN unit ;-)
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

As some of you may know, I have been contemplating abut swapping the PCM 1.0 16 bit I currently have in the car with a newer up to date double DIN system which has DAB+ as FM is being switched off very soon. I have been thinking about it for over a year and nothing has come of it as I keep changing my mind.
So, if I swap the unit with a more contemporary one, will I lose all the info available in the dashboards screen (i.e. temperature, milage left as per the petrol tank reading etc) or is this actually feed from the dash board to the PCM and not the other way around?
I gather I will lose some functions as displayed in the dash board which also shows up on the PCM...?
Cheerio
From what I've read, the dashboard displays all this info regardless of what's fitted by way of audio equipment/PCM. Should be easy enough to pop out the PCM and check.
And out of interest, is FM really going to be switched off where you are? The UK have said it will continue for the foreseeable future and Germany have said they're likely to continue for 10 more years.
I put an aftermarket double DIN system in my 2002 C4S and it didn't affect the display in the instrument cluster. I was still able to see mileage, temperature, miles to empty, etc. My factory head unit was not a PCM unit; it was the CDR-220 unit.
SUPER... Thanks for your replies guys.
@finbarr, I believe we're talking a few months before the plug is pulled besides the reception is really poor over the FM band. I thought the digital switch over was going to be completed next year - in
2015 - in the UK
I also seem to find it difficult to find radio channels when driving in Northern Italy as we all as France and radio kind of keeps me company rather than CD's when driving by myself ;-)
I don't know why Which don't date their articles, but that one's years old. Not so sure about mainland Europe, but the UK certainly hasn't yet announced a date for the switchover as digital listening hasn't reached sufficient levels - and we'll have at least two years notice from when they do.
Though I wouldn't be too hopeful about improved coverage when it does happen...
