Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. And I use the remote display, which probably means somehow running a cable through the dome light all the way down to the cigarette lighter - and then the cable probably has to hang there when I put everything else in the glove box.

Been using V1s since 98 and in the 911 since its birth and have always used the suction mounts.

So I'm not sure I understand - do you then use the GoPro mount for a Valentine (or anything other than the GoPro)?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

On previous cars, I had great luck with one of those black sticky pads that sits on top of the dashboard. It takes a second to put the Valentine there, it never moved in hard braking or cornering (the opposite of my experience with the suction cup mounts), it sat low and inconspicuously, and if I needed to make it disappear quickly, this was also possible in about a second without having to conspicuously raise my arm/lean towards the window.
But my previous cars didnt have a leather covered dash board. And I dont want to find out the hard way that such things are incompatible. Anyone already know the answer to this?
P.S. Ive seen in other threads that some people like to attach it to their rear view mirrors. Not a solution for me. No permanent attachment is. Too much danger of theft and pissing off police. But more importantly, I sometimes drive places where rader detectors are illegal.

As far as the police, its illegal for me every day and in all that time between my wife and I we've gotten 3 tickets for them in VA and none in DC. The cops just don't really care.
I did have one stolen once from my Jag right in front of my house, but otherwise no issues. That was a fun police report
Seriously? On leather? Well, if that works, the black sticky pad would probably work too - and look a lot better. On the other hand, does the blu tack stick to the Valentine when you remove it from the dash board, and not to the leather? In that case, it could be a good solution for me.
I've had also been using suction cups with a Valentine since the '90s. But once you find something better - and the black sticky/grippy pad is better - you'll never go back. Unless of course you have to ...
Hmm, if it's not adhesive, what keeps it from sliding around?
Well, it looks like it might be better than suction cups, but not much. Even if it doesn't slide around, it's bulky (would it even fit in the glove compartment?), and it makes the radar detector highly visible. I'd strongly prefer something that sits flat on the dashboard.
I used it for a GoPro mount, just slid out the GoPro and left the mount on the dash. Shifted around every now and then as it can be difficult to remove if it dries out.
The base of the pad is "tacky" plus the bag itself is "weighted" ...stays planted even during aggressive runs in twisties.
I tuck it all in behind the driver's seat when not in use. Not legal for detectors to be on windshields in CA so above set up is best compromise for me.
I understand your concern about not using any adhesive on your leather dash but all STICKY PAD products I am aware of do a very good job of STICKING and leave residue (I also have one but stopped using it because of this).
Good luck with your search.
So I'm not sure I understand - do you then use the GoPro mount for a Valentine (or anything other than the GoPro)? And your dash is also leather? (Sorry if this is a dumb question - for all I know all 996.2s have leather covered dash boards except GT3s. But then again, maybe not ... .)
Thanks!
And do I understand correctly that the tacky base is different from the sticky products you've tried and does not leave residue or otherwise damage the leather? (If so, this looks like something I should consider.)
(Otherwise, if I can't find an alternative to suction cups that works for me, I'll look into plan B - hard wiring a radar detector ... .)
It really does look like an excellent solution - but probably not for me. To hard to put away inconspicuously. Too visible.
