Reported cause
It was the "middle finger" to the NHTSA that mandated that the U.S suspensions be 1 inch taller than the rest of the world.
Leading evidence: '"middle finger"' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is '"middle finger"' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Run pss10' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

This is probably the option I'm choosing when I refresh my suspension in the spring.

I suspect the spring rates would be a little soft for track/autocross use with sticky tires.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I was shopping for new suspension for my 996 and found that Suncoast wants $3700 for the RoW M030 now. Didn't it used to be $2000 cheaper? Or am I making that up?

I was probably going to go with the hlins R&T's anyway, but now I think I definitely will.
Consider Eibach pro kit springs with Koni Special Active shocks/struts. I have that setup on my '99 and am pretty happy with it. The Eibach spring rates are very similar to stock but the car is lower and the Koni Special Actives are a lot more comfortible than the Bilsteins that were on there before. It works well for me for street driving but I haven't tried it on the track or autocross. I suspect the spring rates would be a little soft for track/autocross use with sticky tires.
Yep...was around $1500 for a long time. I almost ordered it several times but figured they would always be around. Big mistake on my part! Now the price moves you to a category with more options.
Yes, it's been mentioned in several other threads. I paid $1,382.52 in June of 2017 from Sunset. Their current price is $3,525.57. The price is going up about a $1,000.00 per year?
Well...considering I have owned too many Porsche's to count and currently own around 10 (including two 996's) plus a bunch of other collector cars I like to change it up every now and then....
Ah, sorry 'bout that. I did a quick search but didn't do a very good job.
I've read a bunch of of the other suspension threads, but if any of you guys in this thread have other recommendations in addition to thebutterson's above, I'd be interested to hear them.
For a lot less than that you can go to the Bilstein PSS10, right now Tire Rack ha them for a 2000 C4 for $2,546 and for a coupe for $2,777. A much better set of springs and of shocks with more adaptability. You don't get the sway bars but you can pick up a set of Eiback or others for not too much.

The price went up about 2 months ago. Very sad, as I got my car just after it went up. I wonder how this new price impacts the suspension recommendations. I feel like it was the go-to suspension for so long in part because other suspensions weren't worth paying extra for, but now that it is as least if not more expensive than anything else, how does it rank?
The ROW M030 suspension kit was supplied by Porsche in 1 complete box. It was the "middle finger" to the NHTSA that mandated that the U.S suspensions be 1 inch taller than the rest of the world. Due to safety/collision issues, the NHTSA deemed the ROW ride height too low.
What they didn't take into account was the "lift" and "floaty" nature of the car at high speeds with a 1 inch taller suspension.
I bought the kit for my 2003 C2 for $999 in 2013. The Porsche shop that installed it said, "where did you get this?" Needless to say they started stocking and selling a few sets after that. Nothing like having a brand new factory sport suspension and having all factory Porsche parts.
Just did a 350 mi road trip over great driving roads with my new M030 suspension and it was a marked improvement over the stock suspension. It was purchased at the old price so a lot of bang for the buck.
I don’t grasp why vendors would jack up the price point above all the really good c/o options. Did supply really tighten down that much over the last 18 months, when folks were realizing the ROW kit was less than $1400 delivered? Only a really OCD purist would select the ROW M030 (for more money!) over something like hlin r/t or KWv3...or H/R, etc. for much less. “Show me the PSS10’s please. I want to save some money.”, said no one ever until now.
Keep in mind that M030 kit only includes the springs and shocks and sways. You need at least another $500-1000 in parts to complete the kit. Strut tops, strut top bearings, various rubber and plastic spacers, etc. Not including if you want to do the suspension arms at the same time. BTDT.
To be fair though, as much as I hate to be, looking around the only way to do this any cheaper, considering it includes coilovers and sways, would be to get the H&R coil overs. Everybody else is charging $2700 for the coilovers alone it seems.
The Feal coilovers seem to be a decent option. They start at around $1500 and include top mount camber plates. They can be configured with custom valving/spring rates for extra money. This is probably the option I'm choosing when I refresh my suspension in the spring.
I have a used C2 6 speed set I am about to post in marketplace. Let me know if anyone wants it. Asking $1800 shipped in US. I bought it with low miles from a forum member with the intention of putting on my 99 but sold the car before I got around to it.
Thanks fo the tip! Just ordered a set! It was a little more than the quote You got, could be tax that differs, but a whole lot cheaper than the crazy prices on other sites.

Hi Bill
Some months ago, Porsche almost tripled the price of most M030 kits.
The p96007 RoW M030 sport suspension retrofit for the ’99 996 C2 coupe is 2695 euro shipping to the US included.
This is an original Porsche retrofit kit.
If you order 2, the price/kit is 2650 euro delivered
Don't hesitate to contact me for further information.
Thank you,
Gert.
Don't forget to convert euros to US$. The kit for the cab is different than the kit for the coupe. Maybe Gert got hit with the enhanced Porsche pricing?
I got a quote at 2095 Euro shipping include for my 02' C4S.
My second option would be Bilstein B6 and RoW springs... or coilovers.
I had no intention to install coilovers but Im looking at the options right now.
2650 EUR shipping included for my Targa.
I really wanted to put the M030 on my car, but at that price virtually every other suspension option is more appealing.
Anyone still looking for a used 996 C2 setup? I have it in a box and ready to go. It has 16k miles from the previous owner. I never got to install it on my car.
