Suggestion

IMHO, if you have moderate mileage (30k to 60k?) a clean carfax, most/all service records, long term ownership, DME report with zero stage 2 ignitions, good Blackstone report, additional markers of a good M96, such as low cam deviations, high oil pressure at warm idle, those all add up.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...1-carrera-121/ And it's just as nasty looking on the underside as any 996 we own.

POST 2Original post

Uh. It's pretty obvious he meant 17k there bud

POST 3Original post

I wonder if BAT hit the $170,000 bidder’s credit card for sales fee? Rich

POST 4Original post

The funds are in seller's account this morning and the 996 is being delivered by helicopter to buyer's driveway.

POST 5Original post

Quotes source post: 16739346

Ah man I missed it then. It was between this and a 991 gt3 for me. I guess I will have to settle for the gt3

POST 8Original post

I bet that bidder had a mini heart attack when he realized his mistake. I love the sense of humor from the seller, though..

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 16739346

looks like your car, right?

POST 10Original post

Quotes source post: 16740155

Rennlist and BaT username match up probably a safe bet. Also I believe BaT places a hold on your credit card for a percentage of your bid - it's been a while since I've bid on a BaT car though

POST 11Original post

I've always said that mine is NOT for sale. But it would be for that much!

POST 12Original post

$170,000 for a 996 is a bargain compared to these listings in Facebook Marketplace.

POST 13Original post

Congrats on the sale. Buyer got a good deal... Personally I would have waited till next year to list it but one never knows what the future holds.

Auction isn't over. Still a dayn left and sitting at the (corrected) $17k. The zenith blue C4 (I realize this is a C2) with more than twice the miles sold for 16.7k... So this car still has a chance of hitting 20k. I'm rooting for it because it is a very nice color combo.

POST 15Original post

Quotes source post: 16742845

I will be interested to see where this finishes, thinking it will creep up a little more. I've always found red/beige combo to be classy on the 911.

POST 16Original post

Quotes source post: 16742897

Same... It goes well together in classy fashion.

POST 17Original post

Yes, that's my Guards Red C2 on BaT, concluding Thu afternoon. It's been a fun process, even before the $170,000 bid. ;-) BTW, I'll be next door on the 996TT forum for a decade or two, but still following this forum as so many of the NA 996 posts apply to both.

POST 19Original post

Quotes source post: 16745757

That makes me happy! That car is beautiful and well preserved...and truly deserved a strong number. Congratulations, @ wkf94025 !!

POST 20Original post

Why does the description state 17" wheels while the option tag specs 18" wheels?

POST 22Original post

Thanks. Happy with the outcome, and buyer seems to be of quality. Wish I had two of them, because runner up is very deserving of a great car. On the wheels it appears first owner sold them off. Second owner (a friend, who then sold to me after 2 years) never saw the original wheels.

POST 23Original post

Quotes source post: 16746476

Yea, the first owner probably hit a pothole and bent one of the rims and had a heart-attack when he priced a new OEM wheel. Then someone said " I always wanted some 18's, I'll swap you a cherry set of 17's" lol Good job on the sale !!

POST 24Original post

$30k is insane for that car. Seller got lucky there was a bidding frenzy.

POST 25Original post

Sorry, but luck had nothing to do with it. Today was month's in preparation, and decades in the making. IMHO, the same car, same background, same execution next week or next month would yield very similar results.

POST 26Original post

Quotes source post: 16746535

Check low mileage, good service history 996 auction results the past 6 months. They've been steadily climbing. A bidding frenzy is a sign of desirability. The latter ultimately dictates valuation performance.

POST 27Original post

The documentation pushes these sales up IMO. My brother-in-law has been watching closing bids on lots of BAT auctions. The blackstone documents and everything else adds lots of value. Doing the same thing for my car if I ever decide to sell it. It will have a history of what I've done.

POST 28Original post

IMHO, if you have moderate mileage (30k to 60k?) a clean carfax, most/all service records, long term ownership, DME report with zero stage 2 ignitions, good Blackstone report, additional markers of a good M96, such as low cam deviations, high oil pressure at warm idle, those all add up. Add to that early double row IMS, indy endorsement, and ideally warm weather car in an appealing color combo, and the sophisticated BaT buyers will find your offering very appealing. So many of the 996's listed on BaT (and elsewhere) don't have the above attributes. Witness the two other 996's that went sub $20k within the past week.

POST 29Original post

Having watched nearly all of these 996 auctions on BaT and PCarmarket since January, presentation and documentation add a few thousand to the final price.

To be honest, it's in reference to the successful sellers I studied closely for months prior to my at bat. Pun intended by the way.
