Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
19 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

I just installed a Sony XAV-AX210 head unit in my 40AE. I decided to make a few wallpapers, mostly using actual pictures taken of surfaces from my car and thought I'd share, in case anyone could use them. They're 800x480 which is the native resolution of my HU, but resizing/cropping for similar resolutions shouldn't make them lose too much fidelity. Layouts are meant to work with the UI placement of onscreen elements on Sony head units made in the last 3+- years.
The leather surface tones are from dark gray leather with GT silver trim (although I made the silver brighter so it should be a bit more universal). These are PSD's on my machine, so if you have a different color interior and wish for me to match it as best as I can...let me know! Try and take a picture of your dash in the daylight and make sure the color is as close as possible in the picture (I know that's almost impossible..but the closer, the better.)
Enjoy!
Hotcha,
I installed a new Sony HU in my car a few months ago:
I cant recall the model number at the moment, but it appears to be very similar to yours. It looks like yours has a couple more bells and whistles than mine. I would definitely be interested in a home screen wallpaper for my car. It has a Savanah Beige interior. At least I think that is what its called. The current color does not really clash with the interior, but I would like it to feel a little more like it was designed for the car. I defiantly like the look you attained by including the crest.
So, take a picture in good light and then....how should I get the image to you? An image taken of the center stack with enough of the surrounding body to show the interior color I suppose?
I look forward to hearing back from you.
Thank you,
Take a few clear and as straight as possible pic of the passenger side of the dash (airbag/glovebox) and either post on here or shoot me a PM...Then give me a day or so to work on it.
Installing a wallpaper is fairly easy. If you place any JPEG (.jpg) image files in the root directory of a USB flash drive (32GB or less, FAT32 formatted), plug the USB flash drive onto the head unit and, under Settings/Wallpaper, click the box with the "+" sign on it (to the right of the built in colored wallpapers). That should list all JPEG files in the root of the USB flash drive and selecting one will then occupy the single custom wallpaper box (you can, unfortunately, only have 1 at a time in that list... So anytime you want another custom one you have to plug the drive back in to choose it and it gets replaced).
The optimal resolution is 800x480 on most (if not all) Sony HU's. But, anything beyond that will be stretched to fit, I believe...I honestly haven't tried. The trick is to use something that isn't too busy and that allows the white-only UI text to have good contrast. I also played with layers in PhotoShop in order to move things around and make sure they look good against the UI in most screens.
paddlefoot64, I missed your second question the first time around... For the first question, see above for the info on how to load up custom wallpapers.
I know of 1 issue that could be causing your unit to display random times... It is not receiving constant 12V. The unit itself has 2 different power wires... The main one is for constant 12V and the other is the ACC power, which is also 12V but switching (ignition). If both of these wires are hooked to switching power (ACC or other source) then your unit will not receive 12V when the ignition is off and the real-time clock stops. These units only run their clocks when they have a steady supply of 12V.
If you set the correct time and, say, you switch your ignition off at 12:05PM... Then you come back half an hour later and the time is something in between, the clock stopped as soon as all capacitors depleted. That would confirm this being the issue. You'll then need to check your wiring and make sure you're tapping into a constant 12V source for the constant wire.
Loaded your first jpg:
As to time, I thought the same thing, that was just losing the time while turned off, but no, its seems to be random in the time it display.
Glad you're able to use one of the wallpapers!
How long ago did you purchase the Sony head unit? Check your Firmware version under settings. Mine came with 1.00.03 or something like it and I updated it to 1.01.00, which is the latest available on the Sony website. That might fix the issue..? Hopefully!
