Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Also, I have used both the Porsche-branded convertible top protectant and the Raggtop brand.

To clean the top when it is dry and just dusty use a roller that is used to clean dog/cat hair from clothes/furniture.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have 2005 996 with a black convertible top. I have some light stains and tree gum on it. Recommendations for cleaning and possibly adding UV protection? I can post a pic if that would help
Buy the RaggTopp kit. It has both the cleaner and protectant. A day to wash and dry. Followed the next day with 4 lights coats of protectant. Allowing 30 minutes drying between coats. Repeat again in 2 years. Buy from site sponsor Detailers Domain. Buy a quality soft brush too for the wash step.
After protected, only ever wash the cabriolet top with water. No soaps. Sticky tape roller once a week.
Avoid parking the car under trees or any plants that drip sap or leaves or plant trash.
The stuff is no good for the top or the paint and the trash can get into the body water drains and cause the water to back up and overflow into the cabin.
I've never used anything but a DIY car wash wand set to soap to wash my Boxster's top. Do not jam the nozzle too close just a spray from a distance is sufficient.
Then follow with plenty of rinse water again keeping the nozzle at a distance.
Last but not least follow with the non-spot rinse. The water from the top wants to run clear.
I don't bother using any top treatment. The stuff can be hard on paint or the plastic window and I'm not sure it is any good for the rubber underneath the canvas. It is this rubber (sheet) that keeps the water out and seals the cabin interior from the elements. The canvas is just there to protect the rubber.
The beading up many like to see is just show. The canvas wants to be unsealed and free to breathe so any water can evaporate. It if remains it can develop into mold or mildew and this can attack the rubber or the canvas.
To clean the top when it is dry and just dusty use a roller that is used to clean dog/cat hair from clothes/furniture. I get these rolls -- very much like a paint roller -- at the hardware store and the roll has a number of sheets of sticky paper around it that one can remove to expose a fresh surface of sticky paper.
Well, it's the rare occasion that I have to disagree with the wise Macster.
Convertible top treatments like Raggtop do more than just cause the water to bead up. The treatments also provide UV protection that keep the top from fading and degrading in the sunlight. I keep the spray off of the paint and plastic windows, but treat the fabric every year or two. I think the protectants extend the life of the top.
Also, I have used both the Porsche-branded convertible top protectant and the Raggtop brand. The cans are identical. Same size, same cap, same spray nozzle. Just sayin.
This past week was pretty wet here. Might be time to treat the top (I doubt it's ever been treated to-date).
Guess I'll stop by detailers domain sometime this week.
