I suspect it is working and the leak isn't bad or even a nuisance, just noticed it had oil in the rubber boot that was there to protect the wires when I changed the spark plugs.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It looks as though oil is slowly leaking through my vario cam plus actuator on the driver's side. I was wondering if I need a new actuator or can I seal it up somehow. I suspect it is working and the leak isn't bad or even a nuisance, just noticed it had oil in the rubber boot that was there to protect the wires when I changed the spark plugs.

POST 2Original post

Is it like this? https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...aking-oil.html

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Kinda, but leaking through the wires and mines a 3.6. I was hoping I could just seal it up and not have to replace the whole solenoid. I heard there might be a TSB on this issue.

POST 4Original post

Quotes source post: 11758048

I'm confused. The ones on the 3.6 don't have wires coming out of them. They have an electrical connector similar to a fuel injector. Any pics? They are easy (just unscrew from the cam covers) and inexpensive to replace.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Maybe it is a connector, but when I took off the little black rubber boot that protects the wires coming out there was oil in there. Wet oil, not dried and dirty oil.

POST 7Original post

That pic above is mine. I replaced the solenoid seal cover and discovered the leak is coming from the solenoid itself. Kind of frustrating since to replace it is a huge PITA!!!!!!!!!! I am thinking of dropping the engine this winter and taking my time to replace a bunch of crap, just add this to the list!
