I assume this is most often taken care of with other models but has to be checked with the previous owner and a PPI.

I have to check whether he prefers manual or automatic but I assume manual and the 996 turbo still comes with a manual so that should be fine.

This means that a cayman might also fill the needs for a much lower price, what options would have when going the cayman route?

Without knowing your friend's preferences, a CPO car with a warranty might be VERY attractive when considered against third-party used cars with no warranty...

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello everyone,
I was wondering what one could get when having roughly 40000 as a budget. Both Cayman and 911 can be taken into consideration, it should be a coupe and should not suffer from severe depreciation but rather hold their value more or less. The reason why I posted it here is because the 996 turbo seems to be a valid option, but other models should be taken into consideration as well. I hope that I chose the correct subforum. I am aware that many models have IMS issues, however the 996 turbo doesnt, which is a benefit. I assume this is most often taken care of with other models but has to be checked with the previous owner and a PPI.
There is currently the trend that with the 996 Turbo one gets the most bang for the buck, but there are plenty of options such as newer 997 carrera, carrera s and plenty of caymans. I am not sure how the 997 carrera s compares to the 996 turbo since I have not driven any Porsche myself, maybe you can give me a first hint, impression of how they differ. Is there any particular reason why one would choose the 997 carrera s above the 996 turbo s? The car is supposed for a friend who likes Porsche but is rather new to the variety of models etc. Performance is not no 1 priority but rather enjoyment, these obviously go hand in hand. This means that a cayman might also fill the needs for a much lower price, what options would have when going the cayman route? I have to check whether he prefers manual or automatic but I assume manual and the 996 turbo still comes with a manual so that should be fine.
Thanks in advance and I hope I did everything right with posting this, if you need any more information feel free to ask. Also, my keyboard currently doesnt support Apostrophes, which makes writing words like doesnt a pain, I hope you dont bother.
a majority vote will say GO FOR THE TURBO. The opinion of strangers on how he should spend $40K should be the VERY LAST thing that matters IMHO.

..coupe/vert, manual/auto, etc.
a quick search of Autotrader (max $40K, coupe, manual, no max on mileage) yielded 11 listings (any distance from my zip code). Lowest Price:$31,900, Average Price:$37,472

Personally I want the 997.2 Carerra S next.... I wouldn't bother with a 997.1
A cayman GTS would be next on my list but is it too new. Maybe in 2-3 years
If enjoyment is the primary consideration, a Boxster might be the right car. A newer Boxster with more amenities can be had for under $40K - hell, I only paid $25K for my CPO '03 from what is now Porsche of San Diego. Without knowing your friend's preferences, a CPO car with a warranty might be VERY attractive when considered against third-party used cars with no warranty...
