POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 996.1 with factory fitted options such as sports suspension and partial Mk1 aero kit. I have sourced a factory GT3 (taco) wing which I'm going to buy to finish off the aero kit. Now, my question is this: should I add the GT3 decals to the rear lid, 911 ones, Carrera ones or leave the lid without any decals ? What would you do ? Your comments and reasons would be appreciated. Thanks

A few questions. 1. Is it a GT3? 2. Is it a real GT3? 3. Should your wife/girlfriend/mum put S600 emblems on her Mercedes S500?

1. Partially 2. Partially 3. If they had a Merc I'd ask them to leave

POST 7Original post

No, no. Better idea. I'm assuming it's like 2/3 GT3 so be honest about it and put a GT2 badge on. That will be more forthcoming.

Do you know women that have been partially pregnant? Either the VIN says it's a GT3 or it doesn't. It may look like a GT3, but if it's not a GT3 then it's not a GT3. Put the 911 badge on it. Put the Carrera badge on it. Skip badges altogether. I am firmly in the "don't badge it as something that it's not" camp though.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Understood. Of the last 3, which is preferable ?

POST 13Original post

I like the Carrera badge - but if you want a personalized badge how about the English translation: RACE Or even better RACE CAR

POST 14Original post

My MKI is GT3-look enough that I sometimes have other club members ask if I was one of the GT3's at some recent event - but I still wouldn't label it a GT3, since it isn't. Turbo-look cars come from the factory with the Turbo trimmings, but they don't get a Turbo badge... But - as always - your car, do what you want. (Reminds me of a brilliant quote from high school - "It's my d**k, and my soap...I'll wash it as fast as I want to." In the grand scheme of things, it doesn't really matter. Someone who DOES know better recently asked me how many turbos my NA 996 has...

POST 21Original post

If you put a GT3 badge, alot of people will think that your car is a real GT3 and its fast! but those who can distinguish (probably less than 1%) will think you are a rice "wanna be"

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes, I think I've decided not to put the GT3 badge on but am undecided between the 911 and none. I think I'll wait until the new lid is painted and installed. BTW if anyone has already done this, do I really need a new electrical loom, or can I adapt my own one ?

POST 23Original post

No GT3 badge, from memory the aerokit has no badge in the brochure. You can adapt your own harness there are 2 wires to be soldered together so the harness tells the car that the wing is deployed and thus you don't get an error. I'll try and find you the thread on it there are quite a few.

They are unrelated options. Removing the Carrera (4) script was a no cost option. My wife wanted to check that box but I talked her out of it (oh the grief I got when I ordered my P!g with the model delete option ). Back then my argument was that since there were less C4s she should let it stand out. Now I just think Taco + debage looks weird. For the record I had my P!g debaged as I think the combination of the block "P O R S C H E" up against the model in script form looks pretty bad (on all the cars) and debaging left the Porsche lettering so it's not entirely naked.

POST 27Original post

If you don't at least put a 911 badge on it people will think it's a boxster hardtop. If you put a gt3 badge on a non gt3 you'll be in the same camp as all the bmw's with m3 emblems, v6 camaros with z28 badges etc.

POST 28Original post

I think a Mk 1 aero car is a special enough car that it doesn't need to pretend to be anything else. People who know nothing about Porsches look at a full aerokit car and just know it's different. My '99 was a C4 and I always thought the Carrera4 logo looked very cool. The owner prior to me put the GT3 side stripes (kind of a checkerboard look) on it and I hated them. They came off the first day I got my hands on it. The designers got it just about perfect with the Mk 1 aero cars - don't **** it up with other stuff.

POST 29Original post

Quotes source post: 12988281

+996 I have a MK2 full AeroKit II car and I love the no badge look, the kit itself does the talking. Now i'm wondering if I should put GT3 wheels on my car even though i'm guessing they weren't a factory option? I think they are still one of the best looking wheels for a 996 and it contradicts my opinion on the GT3 badge, haha IMO I wouldn't use a 911 badge, the iconic and trademarked shape is enough without calling it out... others may strongly disagree

POST 31Original post

Quotes source post: 12988419

Maybe a "966" emblem? That would be a cool, differentiating designation and I think someone might have some shirts and hats they could sell you.

POST 33Original post

Quotes source post: 12988779

Can be used to open the frunk when you find the previous owner removed the key cylinder from the driver's door after your battery has gone flat.

POST 35Original post

You should put a m3 badge on the back instead... 😁

POST 36Original post

**** it Might as well put 918 spyder on it **** there's a guy in a yellow is250 with Ferrari scuderia shields on the fenders who rolls around my town. Personally. I have no emblem on my aero kit, but there's a bit of a ghost image, people tell me I'm crazy but I can see it.

POST 37 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the feedback guys. My current feelings are to have no badge at all. I can then see how I take to it over time. One thing I would say to those with an aero kit and standard suspension - get sports suspension, or at least drop it by a minimum of 10mm. It really sits better on the road and sets off the aero kit very well.

POST 38Original post

Quotes source post: 12989195

That's weak sauce. Put an AMG badge on it, but replace the M with the BMW M badge then throw on the RS logo for good measure

POST 39Original post

Quotes source post: 12989527

Why didn't I think of that?!

POST 40Original post

I agree with those who have suggested a badge-free car. If you really want one, then go with a 911 badge.

POST 42Original post

Could always go with these guys and put whatever you want on it. For the weak of stomach, I don't suggest looking at their prices... Edit: Yes I paid to gold plate my IMSB, but even I think what they want is ludicrous!

POST 44Original post

It's better to start out with no emblem, then add one on later. Than remove an emblem and get a ghost image.

POST 46Original post

I go with a clean decklid. But that is just me.

POST 47 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Now before the purists complain, I'm not going to do this, but here's another way of looking at things. I'm buying a genuine factory GT3 lid and wing which came from a crashed GT3 that is being broken. If I were to put a 'GT3' decal on it, I wouldn't be lieing as the lid is a GT3 lid. If people make their own assumption that the whole car is a GT3, then that's their business But I'm going to leave it blank for now

POST 50 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So, I've finally fixed on the rest of my GT3 aero kit and have decided to put 911 on the engine lid. I have also bought the 'PORSCHE' badge but am keeping that to see if I think it needs adding. Opinions would be nice too. I'm showing my 'before' and 'after'. I bought the car with the sideskirts but not the front or rear spoiler which I've added. I think the rear spoiler in particular makes the car that bit more aggressive and eager looking which I like but I realise this isn't to everyone's taste. Tell me what you think. Thanks

POST 51Original post

The kit makes all the difference for that color! I don't like the before all all, but it looks great with the wing. Stick with just the 911, don't add the P O R S C H E logo. It's for newer cars and on them I think the combination of the block and script looks bad so close together.

POST 52 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes, that was my opinion too with regard to the lettering. I did try it out with the latters Blutaced on but it seemed a little too noisey. I love the Porker logo just made the back very busy. I'll stick with the 911 for now. Nice to see you agree with me re the spoiler...

POST 53Original post

Looks great! Mk I aero coupe is one of the best looking 911s made of ANY generation. Very unique and beautiful color. No need to pretend to be anything more than what it is bcz what it is is a very special car. If I were to change anything it would be to swap the 911 for Carrera chrome script. But the 911 is fine.

POST 54Original post

I think it looks very nice. I like the 911 badge.

POST 55Original post

Put a GT3 badge in. It'll win the Internet and **** people off! That's what I did. -td

POST 56Original post

LEAVE IT as is...you need to know when to stop! It looks great as she sits now.

POST 57Original post

Stop right here, looks perfect. I miss my mk1 aero. Just wish they made a super taco for the c4s. Also, that's a sharp color!
