Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I'm using good quality Energizer batteries but they are only lasting 2 or 3 days.

My key remote has been working fine for a long time, but after the last battery change I'm having trouble with reduced battery life.

Pull up in your 996 and tell them you wanna take a 918 for a test drive.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My key remote has been working fine for a long time, but after the last battery change I'm having trouble with reduced battery life. I'm using good quality Energizer batteries but they are only lasting 2 or 3 days. I thought there may be a bad connection on the circuit board but whenever I install a fresh battery the remote works again for another 2 or 3 days. Anyone else experience this?
WOW I never knew that it got this expensive to get the Key FOB replaced.
Have to buy a new car instead.
I have one FOB that works just fine and the other one works when it feels like it. My 99 only has one button and for that cost I can actually use the key in the door like in the good old days.

One of your switches maybe shorted. Digi key has replacement pc board mounted switches. A couple years ago Excellence hade an article on them.
You can also get replacement switches if you want/need to.

"Dave:
There is an interesting article in the June 2010 issue of Excellence Magazine entitled: "Fob 4 Less: Fixing a modern Porsche key for less than $3 bucks". The article describes rescuing a dysfunctional key by replacing a couple of small, inexpensive momentary switches. Looks relatively easy to do and since the electronic functions of your key are already messed up you don't have much to lose. I have one non-functional fob, but since the other is working I haven't tried this idea yet. I did call the dealer about a replacment. They offered to solve the problem for $375. If you go the diy route please let folks know how it works out.
The article lists the source for the momentary switch as:
www.digikey.com
, phone # [phone removed]). The three switches (this is a reply to a targa owner 3 switch Remote) are normally off (part # CKN9193CT-ND). The web link is:

One of the guys in the electronics lab has a bin full of these. He's handy with a 25W soldering iron and is going to swap a couple in for me. We'll see what happens.
Nope. Even though the old switches were worn installing the new ones doesn't seem to have restored proper operation. The newest battery does seem to be lasting longer, though.
Oh well.
Both my fobs weren't working, and one was pretty old and worn. I took out the boards and re soldered everything (mostly just applied heat to the old solder spots). It wasn't a big job with a rework station and they both worked after.
I ordered just the plastic case from ebay, it looked perfect in the ad. I got it and it looks great on the outside but the inside is a poor fit, and once I moved the key, the glass cylinder and the board over the battery only lasts 2 days. The softer plastic where the button is (which is harder than the oem) keeps pushing the button draining the battery.
So avoid the one button ('99) key replacement shell you see on ebay.
