Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 2004 C2 Coupe and a new daughter (now 8mo old). The Cybex Aton M rear-facing infant car seat fits in the back. It sits on the seat, i.e. we don't use the base. It gets buckled in with the seat belt. My wife is ~5'8" and can sit in the passenger seat while the car seat is in the back. I'm 6'2" and I can fit, but only in a literal sense. We've gone on a 200 mile trip (San Francisco to Paso Robles) with the three of us plus a bunch of stuff (bags, stroller, diapers, etc) and it was fine. My wife would prefer a little more legroom, in a perfect world, but it's definitely doable. I remember searching for rear-facing car seats for the 996 and much of the info I found was for car seats that are no longer in production (the posts were from many years ago, which makes sense given that 996s are getting along in age now). So there you have it: a car seat you could buy in 2020 (and I assume beyond) that fits in the 996. From what I understand the Cabriolet should be able to fit it just fine as well; I believe the seats are tilted forward a little more but the part where the car seat goes is the same depth as with the Coupe. I haven't verified this personally though.

I loved taking my daughter to daycare and she loved it too. It seems to have really given her an appreciation for the car and she loves it now. she misses riding in it and blames her 1 year old younger brother but in reality I have defaulted to the Volvo out of laziness. your write up reminded me that its doable for rear facing. When she is front facing you may find that her her view out of the car is actually better than most modern wagons/suck-u-vs. Before I was born my parents moved with my older sister and all their stuff on the roof of a 1966 911 to Stanford from Minnesota for him to take a teaching position. That was their only car for quite some time. Must have been great.

Thanks so much for this! Got the Aton M after reading this and confirming it fits in my 2003 Cab. I removed the lower back and bottom cushions to make more space. One other tip the Joolz Aer+ stroller fits in the trunk (with the spare tire in place). The only catch is that the optional bassinet doesn't fit; however, it can be used with the car seat adapters.

Terrific! Glad this helped. I'm grateful for the massive amounts of info people post that has helped me, so I wanted to share a thing I learned and am delighted it helped someone. For later - we have a Cosco brand travel car seat for our now 3.5 year old, that I use in the 996 when not traveling. It can be either front or rear facing; we use it front facing in the back bc it won't fit when rear facing. We did have to buy another car when Nina was too large for the Cybex, but not yet big/old enough for a front facing seat. We had her in the Cybex for about 1.5yrs and she's pretty big for her age, we probably did it a bit too long before biting the bullet and getting a second car. It was a point of pride to just have the 996 for a long time. Now we have a second daughter, and prob could all fit in the 996 with the Cybex behind driver and Cosco behind passenger but it would be real cramped. So, we use the mazda as the main family transport and the 996 has returned to being Dad's fun car.
