Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey guys I am going to be installing a ducktail spoiler in place of the auto lifting spoiler . Lots of posts out there on various ways to disable and not have dash warning light come on . Some say use a Durametric Pro or similar and tell the ECU it has the Aerokit installed . Others say there are wiring hacks that can be done . Others say you have to buy a different harness . Yet others say you can purchase an aftermarket module and just plug it in . So apparently a lot of options . My car is a 99 C4 . I also want the body mount 3rd brake light under the back window to continue to work and the engine bay fan to work . So what does the RL braintrust say is the best way to attack this ? I have a Durametric but not the Pro model . I do have access to a shop that has an Autologic tool .

POST 2Original post

The program to raise and lower the spoiler and the diagnostic/warning system is contained in the Instrument Cluster . The ECU/DME does not receive any information or has any knowledge of the spoiler function on the 99's.. With the proper Electronic Diagnostic/Repair Tool you can interrogate the Instrument Cluster and change the Option Codeing from "Articulated Spoiler " to "Fixed Spoiler" and that all you need to do.. That's the first thing I did to my 99 when I got it 15 years ago. I raised the Spoiler and re-coded it for Fixed Spoiler so it would stay in the extended position..It was a personal preference because I didn't like the look of the silhouette of the 996 with the spoiler down and the Taco was too much over the top...I have been asked many times if my spoiler was broken..lol...I just say NO, I like it raised..... I may have been in the minority by not liking the look of the silhouette with spoiler down and the Taco wing was too over the top for me as a daily, but from the increasing popularity of the Duck Tail, it is a pretty big Minority...

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

PT3 thanks for the tutorial . That should make this pretty simple . I think the ducktail is a little more aggressive than the stock spoiler but not over the top like the taco or similar . Thanks again 👍

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

PT3 a follow up question . I was at a shop today that has an Autologic and Piwis . With the Autologic we went into " body " and then " instrument cluster " . But there was no menu that allowed any changes . With the Piwis we went right to " rear spoiler " but again no options or menu to allow changes . So my question: does the pop up spoiler have to be connected to the car to allow the cluster change ? The wires to the OEM spoiler were cut and individually terminated so there are no shorts . And if I or anyone in the future wants to go back to original they can . The problem I am trying to resolve is the rear spoiler light staying on . Any advice is appreciated . Thanks

No, the spoiler does not need to be connected to change the coding in the instrument cluster.. In PIWIS you would go to "instrument cluster" then to "coding" then scroll down the coding options and select "fixed spoiler"..

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

^^^ Thanks for the reply . Next time I am at the shop I will follow those steps and hopefully achieve greatness 😋 .
