Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Saw a YouTube video of a Porsche guy that just cut the bump stops, installed by gluing them back together with appropriate glueseems to have worked fine and no need to completely tear everything apart, especially gif such a cheap, marginally significant part
Leading evidence: 'Install by gluing them back together' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Suggestion
@OP 4800 is excessive for just replacing all 4 bump stops.

Suggestion
No reason to just replace the bump stops for that price which IMHO, is mostly labor.

Perhaps Wayne reports his experience here after he's had them replaced 😀
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Kinda outragious imho. But this is what shops charge nowadays.
Its about 2hrs work per corner and an alignment. Maybe $100 for the bumpstops? Find a good or better indy.
25 year old bumpstops do need repaced as the detiorate due to being expossed to the enviroment.
My car has been garaged in San Diego's relatively mild climate its whole life and the bump stops were pretty much toast at 38k miles when I put the ROW M030 suspension on.

I'm afraid you're mistaken. It is a very significant part in making your Porsche handle like it was intended as they provide a progressiveness to the otherwise linear steel springs and as such support the front outer vehicle corner when turning in. Same goes for nose dive when braking and, to a lesser extent for the rear squatting under acceleration.
Cutting them up and glueing them back together to save on Installation cost is really not going to work for any length of time. Typical YT 'OMG...' clickbait garbage to do so and make a video of it.
@OP 4800 is excessive for just replacing all 4 bump stops. Only if the replacement of other parts like the shock absorbers or springs is included 'while they're in there' would it become a somewhat reasonable amount.
ETA ...as others already replied..
I think I would have to disagree. On a stock ride height street street driven vehicle I think it would be a rare occasion to bottom out the suspension enough to rely a bump stop. It only helps the spring at 95% compression.
So it was the Porsche dealer? But $4800!? I thought I was gonna hear it was some kind of a new "certified" bump stop installer program with that exorbitant price.
My front bump stops were like
@SoCal911t
's, maybe worse. I diy'd by removing just the shock top bolt and pushing the shaft down enough to insert a new one through the springs. Took maybe a couple hours. This was just for the fronts though, my rears are not so bad but I haven't done them yet as they are more work. Still, any shop can do this so I wouldn't go to Porsche. Also, I wouldn't buy Porsche parts as it's a pretty low tech item.
I agree it is rare to bottom out but way before that happens and as such much more often it is being compressed and carries part of the load that without said part would lead to more suspension travel/body roll and/or pitch.
It is not a bump stop per se but an auxiliary spring and named as such in the (german) parts catalogue.
I think the testimonials by those who replaced old/worn or lost 'bump stops' and no other parts and drive their car spiritely on a curvy road paint a convincing picture.
Perhaps Wayne reports his experience here after he's had them replaced 😀
It will also depend on your ride heigh. My track Miata pretty much runs on the “bump stops” (auxiliary spring is a much better term). Feal even made adjustable ones to tune car.
My STi rode on the bump stops quite a lot; it had abysmal suspension travel. In general though I agree that bump stops should be seen as an integral part of the suspension and not just a block to bounce off at the limits of travel. They're designed to provide progressive assistance, plus they are specific to different ride heights. I bought bump stops designed for R0W M030 ride height when I did my suspension, for example.
Here's my 2 cents... Do it right OR do it twice. We're talking 20 year old tired struts. Replace the entire strut assembly per side. No reason to just replace the bump stops for that price which IMHO, is mostly labor.
I've done this job myself and can see why shops charge what they do to remove and reinstall the strut assemblies.
$4,800 just for bump stops is too high. I got 4 Michelin tires, 4 Bilstien struts/shocks, an alignment and an oil change for that amount a few months ago.
