My car has a factory optioned X51 package, but a discussion in a Facebook group led me here to ask as there seems to be more knowledgeable people here. I know I read about a dealer X51 option that ran in the mid $20k range, but can find no info online about it. Can anyone confirm if this was indeed an option a dealer could add? If yes, I assume it required engine removal and breaking it open to add all the components that a X51 factory option contained?

Yes, it is true that there was a Dealer Installed Option for X51 performance package. It consisted of R&R the engine, R&R the heads. Install X51 heads with X51 cams, X51 headers, X51 Aluminum intake, and X51 oil pan baffles...Cost was about $25k IIRC..and gained about 25HP This for the 3.6 engines.. The X51 kit for 3.4 ( which was not available for the US market) also included pistons that were notched to clear the high lift cams, and a dual scavenge pump for bank 2 head......and was a bit more costly ... Great, thank you for confirming. I knew I read about it but for the life of me, could not dig the info up again. Info on the X51 package as it is was always a little hard to come by, dealer optioned, even more so no appreciation your response.
