Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey all, found
this "seeming" beauty online
but she's too far for me to go look at in person. The dealer got her from repo and the Carfax checks out. But I'm just weary.
Here's the interesting thing. They're offering a 7 Day Inpsection Guarantee upon delivery. So if I take it to a shop by me and they find anything out of sync with the info provided or repairs that are 10% or higher of the purchase price, they provide a full refund and will ship it back.
Car's got 43k miles and they're asking $24k for it. Which feels like its a bit too good of a deal.
The photos on the dealer site are really thorough and have under carriage and engine detail. Something like 106 photos and 2 videos.
But the carfax makes me pause as the car seems to have gone from one auction to another. And the last record on the carfax is registration from September of last year with the same mileage as the car has now.
Would love some thoughts.
I dunno man.
The ad is copy and pasted from here:
https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/...ra-s-cabriolet
Their address (2910 Kerry Forest Pkwy D-4 #351 TALLAHASSEE, FL 32309) comes up as a mailbox to a UPS store. Maybe this is legit in Florida. Where I live, dealers have to have physical addresses in order to get a license.
I think if you can prove they have the car it seems like a deal, but this is feeling like "buyer beware".
It was also listed for sale here on Rennlist:
https://rennlist.com/forums/market/1286451
I would reach out to the seller and see what they know.
It's a good price, but agree, you need to check. The site looks like a cookie cutter web template. But, the business if focused on turning repos. So, the price is prolly trying to recover a loan instead of getting the market price. Turn quick and they get $100 from their canned website. Never need to touch the car. That said, the pics are from when it was last auctioned. What does it look like now? Where is the car now? We know these engines don't do well with limited oil changes. Needs a borescope. Where did it spend it's time when not running? (99% of the time) Was it in a non-condensing environment(again, about the engine)? Call them up! Worst case, you hang up on them. Best case, you get a great deal.
Thanks guys. Really helping provide some context on this one. The dealer claims the car is now in their lot and they're in possession of the title but I'm not feeling very confident at all on this one. Asked him if they'd be willing to have a local Porsche shop do a PPI on the car. Otherwise I think I'm walking away.
I would honestly pass on a car from a non Porsche dealer in FL. In my search with cars that popped up there.....They have many issues and some rebuilt titles that are hidden....and Yes a 997 cab for $24k and 38k miles is too good to be true, every dealership would markup this 997 to over $42k
surely he'd be willing and able to do a walk-around during a video call since he's got car and title in hand. I'd suggest that to them instead of a PPI at Porsche but I think it's best to walk away.
Thanks guys. I was able to get in touch with the original owner on Rennlist who sold the car at 37k miles. He mentioned t
he car was well cared for during his father's ownership. He is a retired Audi, Porsche tech. He said he sold it to a canadian dealer which correlates with the Carfax. The question that's left is what the car did for the last ~6k miles.
How far are you from Tallahassee? The thing about smoking deals is you have to act fast as everyone is looking for them, so the first one to pull the trigger wins..
Yes, a PPI for sure, drop the pan, look for metal, scope the cylinders from the bottom( bore score),Road test listen for noise..Oil sample.. Paint meter test for paint work/ possible rebuilt title..
Good luck !!
I'm all the way down in Naples so its a long drive. What are your guys' thoughts on this 7 day money back guarantee thing? Does is sound like bs? Never heard of that before.
Yeah, so, FlattestSix, ask the original owner about the odometer being partially obscured, or as they said, missing pixels if the car was well cared for, I will bet the display was fine before. There is no way that you can get a 997 S for $24K. My bull**** detector points to the messed-up odometer display and the way the carpet has been clearly cleaned that this is a flood salvage.
Get someone on Rennlist that lives in Tallahassee area to head over there ASAP. I live in Charlotte,NC and if the car was here I would go over and check it out for a good fellow on Rennlist!
Thanks Cool. Loving this community. I'm waiting for the dealer to get back to me on at the very least a walkaround video and a live shot of the odometer. If he's unwilling to do that, I'm walking away. Otherwise, will definitely try your approach.
Rain water/fresh water floorboard floods on 996/7 are common ( especially on Cabriolets) and wouldn't scare me at all...I would take a 1/2 price discount for rain/fresh water floorboard flood on a Porsche any day of the week or twice on Sunday..
The drains are serviced as a Porsche Scheduled Maintenance at all Major service intervals at Porsche Dealerships.. Indy's or DIY'ers may not do this service and the reason there are many rain water floods. I have repaired dozens of rain water floorboard floods on Porsche 996/7. It just requires the replacement of the Immo control unit, or any other control unit under the seats, carpet removed and hung up outside to dry for a day or two, Shop Vac to remove standing water, and a fan placed in the car to dry the floorboard, WD40 sprayed into all electrical connectors in the area...All Porsche Dealers will have several of these per year due to customers not servicing their drains..Sometimes customers will have their Insurance Co. "total" the car due to this repair, most Insurance Co. will not ....
If this is the reason for the deep discount, no one will ever know...
Salt water flood is a whole different ballgame..
Advise the Tech to look for salt water flood damage evidence during PPI...
Too good to be true.
The listed company is registered in Florida and is now inactive. The registered agent - likely the former owner of what was a once-legit company - appears to have passed away in Feb 2023.
So someone has listed this car at half the price it appears to have auctioned for, under a FL business that does not have a current agent or active registration.
The website was just registered in June 2023.
Google image search for the photo on the "Contact Us" page shows it's been lifted from Streetside Classics in Concord, NC.
The GT500 listed for 17k sold 6 months ago for 35.7k in TX.
The 2010 Challenger listed for 14K sold in Aug 2023 for $26250.
No one sells a Porsche on a bespoke website for half value. No one. The other cars, I can't speak to, but still questionable.
These are not "repossessed cars." This is by every indication a scam website waiting for someone to take in. Someone, probably off-shore, is using the seemingly-legit business identity of this deceased Florida individual to convince you that they are offering these cars at half value.

Yep you guys called it. The moment I asked for a video walk around of the car, the guy stopped responding altogether.
Be careful out there and thanks for everyones help on this.
Well done team! Yeah. It is no bueno. Make a car sound great. Offer money back guarantee, and I dont understand how so many cars out there are owned by previous mechanics of that brand. Its such a cliche story. I feel like I rarely see mechanics buy what they work on all day. Its like being sick of steak when you work in a steak house. We all take leaps when paying cash for a car we actually cant kick the tires on ourselves, and we do it all the time but with a little more confidence if it comes from a reputable source. The maker of this ad was likely not even on American soil, and is probably reading this thread as we write it.
