Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

22 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

04 c4s 111k miles wow so I changed the previous oil (Mobil 0w-40) to moly 5w-40 (green bottle) and noticed a significant improvement in response with acceleration and engine sound. Much more revy and bigger growl. Am I imagining this? I dont think I am. Anyways i didnt drop the pan this time and noticed these bits on the filter. Tiny black bits that look like plastic. Worry? The top pic had some obvious debris from cutting the filter so I removed those from the bottom pic. I dont want to do an oil analysis and go down a path of anxiety.

POST 4Original post

Bits of plastic are most likely from the chain pads and its normal to find them in the sump if the pan has not been pulled for a long time. If they r in the filter they have some how got past the screens? I thinl i would drop the pan to inspect.

POST 5Original post

Check your cam deviations with a Durametric. You may need new chain pads.

anyone with durametric near Chicago? or should I just go to the dealership?

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I dropped it last fill and didnt find black bits. the screen are too big for these tiny bits eh?

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 19056595

Ding! They're bits of sealant from when you put the sump cover back on.

POST 10Original post

OP - Fact is the fresh denser oil will more likely not improve anything but wear characteristics, particularly cold start protection. Oil drag from a less sheared and diluted oil fill will actually decrease hp by a small percentage.

Where is the blinker fluid reservoir? Do I need to perform complete flush or just top it off? Blue, green, blue, purple fluid or neon fluid?

Carlo, where do you get your 996 serviced in the Chicago area?

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 19057697

I do my own so never been to one. I am actually about an hour west of Chicago in Aurora/St Charles area.

POST 19Original post

The durametric costs $250 and is well worth it. Especially if you are a do it yourself guy. If needed you have Barnaba Autosport in Batavia which is very close to you, and Eurosport in Bensonville which I have used since the mid 2000s.
