Suggestion

One quick test you can do to (possibly) determine if its a loose rear window regulator is to roll the rear window down and use the palm of your hand to bump the top of the rear panel cover or bump the exterior area near the rear window and if you hear that rattle then it just might be your window regulator.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I had an incredibly annoying rattle coming from the driver side rear window area which was the sound of metal rattling on the glass. this only happened when the window was down. i took apart the rear passenger panel and trim and found the window regulator 2 bolts were slightly loose, so did a quick tightening of those and sound is gone and car is quiet as it should be!! not the greatest picture but this is one of the 2 window regulator bolts that was loose... 996 turbo cabriolet - rear window regulator bolts loose causing rattling when window down

I think you guys are on to something! Thank you! I will report back once I tear off this door card, for the 12th time, since I've purchased the car 1.5 years ago... I'm going to be ecstatic if this fixes it.
