Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I replaced the original B4's with B6's and had no problems with fitment.
Leading evidence: 'Replace original b4's' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). I used my stock springs and didn't have any issues with fitment.

I am installing Bilstein B6 struts, replacing my 20 year old factory B4s.

Aren't the b6 and b8 meant to be used with a lowering spring?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am attaching a photo of the original strut, 996 343 034 25. I goggled that p/n and looked in PET, and nothing was found.
I am installing Bilstein B6 struts, replacing my 20 year old factory B4s. I noticed when I was installing the new strut to the spring I had a hard time getting the new stock spring compressed enough so I could thread the nut on the B6 strut shaft.
I compared the strut length of the B6 to B4, and its shorter by almost 21mm. I thought that the B6 and B4 have the same lengths?
The new shock mount binds on the B6 when I try to turn it. Maybe this is normal with a new shock mount? The B4 shock mount has a slight bind, but I can turn it 360 degrees with little effort.Maybe normal for a 20 year old shock mount?
Do you think I am good to go with this installation, given the fact that the B6 is slightly shorter?
Thanks guys!
I replaced the original B4's with B6's and had no problems with fitment. Double check you have the correct new B6's for your application. I used the original springs. I do not have lowering springs.
I just completed this installation a week ago. I used my stock springs and didn't have any issues with fitment. Everything was new except the spring. My kit also came with a new mount bearing.
I have the correct struts per model number. Did you happen to compare the lengths of your stock B4s to the new B6s like I did?
Maybe the B6 is a little shorter than the old factory B4?
Thanks!
Just thought of this, since initially I had it wrong. The washers on the bottom, near the bump stop and the one on the top are concave. I had to top one wrong and I thought I didn't have the spring compressed enough. I looked at the parts diagram that I printed and corrected my mistake, and it went together easily.
I did not measure the old or new ones. The part number on the box still in my garage says: 22-046123. I have a 2004 Cabriolet. I'm not sure if there are different part numbers for other models.
If anyone need a set of springs for free off my 2002 C2. They have approx 20-25k miles on them and have been sitting in storage since 2006 when I put on PSS9s. All you have to do is pay for shipping from zip code 60187. Just PM me if you need them. Trying to clean out my storage.
