Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello, I previously posted a topic on vibrations under braking which mysteriously appear after about 5.000km from mounting new brake rotors, here: https://rennlist.com/forums/996-forum/1321693-vibrations-under-braking.html?ispreloading=1 In an attempt to get to the bottom of these issues we will be measuring the wheel hub deviation or runoff. The indy shop which will perform the measurement suggested that the deviation should be 0-0,01mm but they werent sure. Before going ahead I ask the kind and knowledgable people of this forum: What is the allowed deviation or runoff on the wheel hub of a carrera 996? Information on the radius of measurement is also very much appreciated.

POST 2Original post

Porsche specs the maximum lateral runout for the hub at .04mm (.00157" or 1.5 thousandths). Porsche worse case run-out for total rotating mass (hub+rotor=.002" at the hub which equates to .0045" @ perimeter, 18" alloy wheel =.0275) exclusive of the tire is calculated to be .032". Hope this helps.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you, just to confirm on my image below... At the yellow dot (measured on the hub without the rotor) the maximum permitted runoff is 0.04mm or 0 .00157" and at the red dot (on the mounted rotor) it's 0.1mm or 0.0045" ?

POST 4Original post

Make things simpler for yourself. Total runout of the rotor/hub after wheel is torqued down is what your after. The hub runout can't help but show up in the rotor runout measurement. Use some washers and wheel bolts, or other bolts to torque the rotor down evenly to the hub. Then measure runout at an area that the brake pad rides on(slightly in from the outer edge). That will be the total runout of the disc/hub assembly... Anything over .004" will give you some high speed vibes under braking. Over .006" will cause shudders/vibration even at lower speed braking. jmo
