Rather, I suspect the faceplate is actually fitted early in the assembly process of the cupholder mechanism.

Having watched it a couple of times, I thought Id attempt a trial fitment using the technique outlined in the video BEFORE glueing the damn double hook lug on for the final time.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Having carried out the lower center console, radio delete and moved the HVAC control display back to its rightful place. I have one issue. Whilst removing the cup holder assembly, I snapped off the double hook lug on the back of the faceplate. I managed to superglue it back on, but then snapped it off again trying to refit it ... Having bought the necessary materials to remove the glue residue and re-glue the lug, I tried to refit the faceplate again, and low and behold, I snapped the lug off once more... At this point I thought it might be worthwhile seeing if there was a guide as to how fit the faceplate on Youtube. And of course there was : https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=m0K17af_JoI#searching Having watched it a couple of times, I thought Id attempt a trial fitment using the technique outlined in the video BEFORE glueing the damn double hook lug on for the final time. Now whilst I dont consider myself to be the smartest cookie in the jar, with the best will in the world, this hook on the back of the faceplate : aint fitting in this groove in the front of the cup holder assembly . And even if it did, it wouldnt just clip in with the gentle push indicated in the video. Just no way Jose. So, just WTF am I doing wrong here ?? (or does this cupholder have a different assembly method to the one in the video ?)

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, many thanks for your response. Unfortunately, the more I look at the cupholder assembly and the faceplate, I've come to the conclusion that the faceplate was never meant to be snapped into place in the manner detailed. Rather, I suspect the faceplate is actually fitted early in the assembly process of the cupholder mechanism. I’ve picked up a spare cupholder from EBay and fitted it. I’ll strip the broken cupholder down at my leisure and see if I can fit the faceplate in the manner I suspect was intended.
