Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all! I’ve had my 2000 C2 manual for about 3 years now. After much searching, I can’t find a direct answer to this question:
What would cause my steering wheel to feel loose and allow it to be moved slightly from side to side at all angles? By this I mean if I push one side of the wheel in and pull the other side out, I feel it move. This happens no matter where the hands are on the wheel - 9 & 3, 12 & 6, whatever
To investigate, I took the airbag off to see if the wheel itself was loose and it was not. I snugged the center nut anyway just in case. No dice, still wobbles a hair.
Of note, when the column is locked
(when the steering wheel was turned while the key was out)
, the wobble is totally gone.
Is this a bad column lock? Or a bad bearing (the one that requires the entire shaft to be changed)?
Completely overhauled suspension - every arm and rubber bit including inner tie rods has been changed with new OEM parts. hlins coilovers.
What do you think?
Thanks!

I remember a thread from a long time ago. Pull the steering wheel off (loosen the center nut but don't remove it or else you will hit yourself in the face), then check the upper bushing. I believe (if memory serves me correctly) the bushing had come out a bit and needed to be whammed back in place. That's all I remember.
If you find out that you need to replace your steering column, let me know. I have an extra. I would gladly give it to you, if you want to cover shipping (after you receive it) from Idaho. Mine is from a 99 C2.
Video of wobble:
You Tube
As you can see, when the steering wheel is pulled in various directions towards or away from the driver, it seems to have a little bit of yaw.
When the ignition lock is engaged, the wobble basically goes away.
What does that mean?
