I used the basic 3M kit that can be found at most auto parts stores and was happy w/ the results.

For 996.2, use a bicycle pump to push the washer's up and then use a small screwdriver to remove the chrome caps.

I've restored over 100 headlights over the last 10 years. I use the bulk sized Meguiars polish and UV protectant. I use sanding blocks in 1000 grit and 4000 grit. I have a few polishing wheels, but mainly use some I originally got from a couple of Meguiars kits. They're still in good shape after LOTS of headlights. ( I use 1 for the polish and 1 for the UV protectant) Most cars I use painters tape to protect the car's paint. (I've had my polisher get away from me before) But on Porsche 911s and Boxsters, I always remove the headlights and polish them on a bench. For 996.2, use a bicycle pump to push the washer's up and then use a small screwdriver to remove the chrome caps. If you just need a kit, get the Meguiars that has the polishing pad/wheel inside.
