Should I get 205/50 (Porsche's recommended snow tire size for a 7" wheel, and what is currently installed), or do I go wider, like 215 or 225 because the wheel is wider?

Should I run the recommended summer tire size on these (255/40) or could I go slightly narrower and taller 245/45 (presumably better in the snow and saving me $175)?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, I'm looking to install PIRELLI SOTTOZERO 3 winter tires on my 99 996 Coupe but I have aftermarket wheels. The fronts are 7.5x17 which is not a standard Porsche size. Should I get 205/50 (Porsche's recommended snow tire size for a 7" wheel, and what is currently installed), or do I go wider, like 215 or 225 because the wheel is wider? The rears are 9x17. Should I run the recommended summer tire size on these (255/40) or could I go slightly narrower and taller 245/45 (presumably better in the snow and saving me $175)? Porsche recommends rear winter wheels/tires 8.5x17 and 225/45 but again my rear wheels are 9" wide. Thanks!
