POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Anyone have pics to share. looking for a low cost option no more than $500 per wheel. I was checking out these as options from wheel enhancement, Leaning towards the first image..

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Looking at these options for my car. .. Car is dropped on H&R springs now.

POST 3Original post

I don't see $500 / wheel and tire being enough. Maybe $3000 and up for all 4. Btw.....the wheels you have are some of coolest Porsche 996 wheels on the planet. I'd take the money and put it into some coilovers.

POST 4Original post

I've been thinking about a set of these german made fuch style wheels from wheel dynamics . 19" 8.5" wide frounts and either 10 or 11" wide on the back . I'm thinking of tens on the back

POST 5Original post

first picture in the first post is the best in my opinion.

POST 7Original post

you need to find out if they are cast wheels, and avoid them, a forged wheel is best and a flow formed is ok.. but not the same quality as a oem forged wheel

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sorry should have clarified more, 500 per wheel plus tires. Not Including tires.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 12589670

I opted for springs instead as this car is going to be a street duty car. I have a Lotus Exige S track car too.

POST 10Original post

My vote is for the Fuch's... or #2 if you have your heart set on just those 3.

POST 11Original post

Personally, I am not a fan of 19" or 20" wheels on the 996. However, this is your decision and your car, not mine. One thing to consider is that 19" wheels will require lower profile tires than 18" wheels, giving you less protection from pot holes, ruts, and bad pavement. As a result, your wheels will be a bit more susceptible to damage than an 18" wheel. With this in mind, my choice for a 19" wheel would be a forged wheel and you won't find new forged wheels at $500 each. I would worry that an inexpensive wheel will be easily damaged and you'll be replacing them frequently. I think that the wheel in the first photo looks very nice.

POST 12Original post

Second photo. Not sure about a dark wheel with your car's color, due to the lack of contrast. Would beg the question of paying so much for a wheel you cannot distinguish clearly. This probably explains why the first and third are shown on lighter color cars. Second photo set also looks like a 991-era design. Other go there or totally retro with a silver Fuchs replica set. You should be able to sell the current set for a good price.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 12591110

Those are great points actually. I dont want to kill the ride quality.. Those Fuch's are really nice. In a perfect world I would opt for the 50th Anniversary 991 wheels in a heartbeat but they are too big. I dont really want to drop crazy money into this car for wheels because I only plan to keep it a year or two more then buy a pre-owned 991 GTS

POST 14Original post

If you're only keeping the car a short while, why buy the wheels at all? Road damage isn't a problem in Florida, so if you like 19s, then go for those. Of the 3 in the first post, I like the first option the best.

POST 15Original post

I'll go for the second and if you can find them for $500 new please send me a PM

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Pretty much decided on option #1 dusted off the P-Shop skills. Wifey prefers all silver.. I'm on the fence.. Thoughts?

POST 18Original post

I like the silver more than the black. I think black has been played out for a while now though. There are some colors black wheels look good on, however.

POST 19Original post

Quotes source post: 12592740

+1 on the silver. I'm not sure the silver lip looks good, however. I'm also on the market for these exact look wheels. It appears Tire Rack has similar looking wheels but I haven't finished the research yet. http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Wheel...+Graphite+Acct

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah, Those are nice too. Wheel Dynamics has the same style as those Tire Rack ones too.

POST 21Original post

I wouldn't recommend 'upgrading' to 19" wheels. I've had nice 19" wheels on my car for more than 5 years and finally downgraded back to stock sizes due to the harsh ride. They only way I could be happier with the decision was if Michelin sold the PSS in correct stock sizes for the 996. The problem with the 19" wheels isn't the extra weight or the potentially lower sidewall. The problem is that they raise the car up by 1/2 inch which is significant. And to drop it back to the stock height means less suspension travel which results in a harsher ride. I used to have to slow down over train tracks and rough road. With 18"s my car is noticeably lower than before _and_ I can take bumpy roads and train tracks at almost-normal speed. I have coil-overs so I can adjust the height as needed though. I do think that 19" wheels look nicer, but the compromise in ride quality is significant. My $0.02 after running both 18" and 19" for more than a year each.

POST 22Original post

Quotes source post: 12593202

I've thought about this for the same exact reasons... The problem is, most nice wheels are 19 inch. My C4S is hard enough.... and I'm sure going to 19's would exacerbate it.

POST 23Original post

I understand completely. Have you looked at the new 18" RS-808 wheels from Wheel Dynamics? There is another thread on those. I like the looks, although I would prefer 11" rear wheels over 10".

POST 24Original post

Hi there guys, We just wanted to chime in really quickly to let you all know that the RS-808 is also being offered in a custom build form. Yes, these are Rotary Spun Design wheels with an estimated 22-lbs front and 23-24-lbs. rear give or take depending on your final size and off-set. Here are the sizes we offer 19x8.5, 19x9.5, 19x10, 19x10.5 and 19x11 (built to your off-set). The standard price includes finishes such as silver, black gun-metal and all clear applications such as gloss, satin or matte. Custom finishing such as Brush shown will up the price at $200/ea. currently under promotion for $150 ea. (must send us photos) $500/per wheel includes standard finishes. Here is more information on Flow Forge, Semi Forge, Rotary Spun, Rotary Forged wheels. We just posted up this video to help you understand a bit more how they are built! POST 25Original post

Here are some photos not on the site... this might better assist you in deciding. Wheel Dynamics

POST 26Original post

Quotes source post: 12592680

^^^My vote. Do agree with comments about bigger wheels. It's simple: the bigger the wheel, the less meat can be added on, plus the suspension travel issue and resulting in a harsher ride.

POST 27Original post

Quotes source post: 12593202

This raising 1/2" is only true if you keep the sidewalls the same height. If you lose some sidewall (which you mentioned also) your ride height will stay exactly the same. Going back to 18's your height is lower because you're not running the same diameter tire as on the 19's. Personally I'm in SW Florida and all of our roads are butter smooth so the extra sidewall the 18's give over the 19's is a non-factor. But if I lived back up in MI you bet your **** I'd have the 17's on there.

POST 28Original post

19s are pure poser...they off zero mechanical advantage while degrading the performance of the car. Spending money to screw up your car does not make sense.

POST 29Original post

Quotes source post: 12593987

You are correct, if you up-size your wheels then down-sizing is going to be in order so that your ABS, PSM & Speedo all perform accurately. In 4-wheel drive Porsche cars such as the C4, C4S, Turbo and GT2 it's more important to keep that over-all diameter in line with factory specs.

POST 30Original post

Quotes source post: 12594190

To each their own sir, we wouldn't call many people on the forums here posers, it doesn't set well with most. Those with the Porsche Aero Kits are Posers since they didn't purchase the GT3? Or those who paint their brake calipers in order to dress up the wheel brake systems up a little are posers since they didn't option the S, GTS, Turbo, Hybrid models? Our vehicles are a canvas, not everyone buys a Porsche to be purist, just like most of us won't purchase a home without making tasteful modifications. Not everyone purchases a Porsche to get every oz. of HP or performance modification out of each item. In this business We've found that more than 90% of our customers have no intention of ever tracking their Porsche cars. With this being said thank you for your comments however they are quite bold sir.

POST 31Original post

Quotes source posts: 12593366, 12594190

The problem is, the 18" 808's are no longer available. With the 19", the only tires that are available are Nitto's....yuck. I was IMing with Eli from Wheel Dynamics earlier (thanks Eli!!). The RS808's look too "girly" when they rounded out the inside gaps. It almost looks like a freakin' flower from the pics! So now, I'm thinking AT4's with 18". But from their website it appears they are only available in 19"? It's also hard to see what the wheel colors (it appears they have three colors available) will look like on a Seal Gray car. Although they have a lot of pics, they don't seem to be as helpful. It would help if they posted within the pic what color wheel they are showing in the pic. I.e. - how do I know if the wheel in the pic is a Platinum Satin vs. Silver Satin vs. Diamond Cut vs. Anthracite Satin? Actually, Anthracite is most likely black. they don't make it easy... There's the Tire Rack Starke Design (who the hell is Starke Design?) option but the wheels there don't look as good, although the price at $270/$290 front/rear for 19" is good. So not true... they offer a ***huge*** mental advantage.

POST 34Original post

Just throwing out a couple more photos that pertain to the topic.

POST 35Original post

Anything that reduces the mechanical efficiency of the original design is absurd...and even dangerous. And that includes so called super technology in which repair is impossible...only replacement. Aftermarket mods as well as Porsche factory design is now producing cars created for rich but incompetent owners. No spare tire, no dip stick, self adjusting suspensions (for those who don't know how to drive), adjustable engine and transmission maps for those who rely on computers to provide the skill that the owner lacks...engines that start and stop to satisfy Washington bureaucrats, unnecessary 7 speed transmissions to bribe the EPA (using the customer's dollars)...the list goes on and is growing. The original concept of the car was freedom of movement. Today the freedom is only possible if you have a flatbed withing 50 miles.

POST 36 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I got lucky......they came with the car when I bought it years ago. SSR has a web site as well as other places to get them from. They are staggered 19's. I love them!

POST 42Original post

stay with 18 inch fitments,i understand the availability of styles are becoming less, however the car was designed for the 18s,if you really enjoy driving or exploring the potential of your porsche, then thats the correct size. The 19s look good in those professional photos from wheel dynamics no doubt...anyway good luck.

POST 43Original post

What extra sidewal;? The stock tires size is 285 30 18 with a diameter of 24.7". I was running 295 30r19 diameter 26. The tire sidewall is almost the same. The 18" tires are already very low profile so you can't lose any sidewall going to 19". If you upgrade to 19" wheels you have to have the same sidewall which means your car will be 0.65" higher. Or if you want to lower it to make it look reasonable you will lose that much in suspension travel.

BBS CH-R are 19" silver, grey or black available and for 660 a wheel. Saw these on a 4S recently and they looked great.

Borrowed from a for sale post, nice looking 4S with BBS CH-R.

POST 46 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Those look nice. So after all of this and looking into rolling fenders for the wheels I wanted, I decided to buy a refurbished Sport design to replace my bent rear .Got a killer deal on it and I am going to order new rubber. I plan to keep the car only a year or two and then trade in my trailer, Exige S and this car and buy either a 991 Turbo or GTS . IO figured for resale I would be better off sticking to OEM.
