Suggestion

Final steps, the plenum has to be aligned perfectly in the rubber pieces otherwise you end up with an air leak; before final tightening of the clamps you want to snug them up, install the TB so it is aligned to the TB bracket, then finally tighten the clamps.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I have a '99 C4 6 speed with 96k miles. I just replaced the Air Check Valve and SAI Valve, but I'm struggling getting the rear intake distributor back on. Anyone have any helpful hints? Thanks, Mike

POST 2Original post

I've done this several times. It is tricky. Put the clamps on the rubber pieces, I found it easiest to start with the left side. With the rubber pieces on the plenum, you have to slide it all the way over to the left and then try to work the right side on. Don't tighten any clamps until you have the plenum in and can work the rubber pieces in there. It is difficult and you have to do some pushing. Helps if you use some silicone spray to get everything slippery. Final steps, the plenum has to be aligned perfectly in the rubber pieces otherwise you end up with an air leak; before final tightening of the clamps you want to snug them up, install the TB so it is aligned to the TB bracket, then finally tighten the clamps. Remember also there is a plastic vacuum line that attaches to the rubber piece behind the left side. It slides right in but if you forget it it will make the engine run badly and throw a code. Good luck!
