My 8.5" rims a et46 and 54 (i think) and i use a 7 or 12mm spacer with a 4.1* camber.

Unless you are running an R compound tire with a very stiff sidewall (which most people do not and use 200tw instead), otherwise it is just an added unsprung wait for the most part.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have a 2002 911 Carrera 2 and need to get a set of new rims for autox.
I want to stay under $1000 for the set and have my eye on a set of Victor Equipment Baden rims.
I have not found any other options honestly. ( Was looking for 18x9 or 18x9.5 front ideally)
Reading this forum It looks like 18x11 ET55 will fit fine with 295/30R18
All I found is an 18x10 ET50 and I have concerns about the front fitment.
I have tried fitting my rear 17" wheel up front which are 255/45R17 ET55 9" Rim and they fit. The rim is very close to the shock though (mb 7mm clearance) So a 17x10 ET55 would not fit for sure.
I suppose 18x10 ET50 with 255/35R18 with 5mm to the outside (compared to ET55) should clear the inside? (considering the shock is moving away from the rim and we go up 1/2 with 18" vs 17")
Does anyone have experience fitting 18x10 up front?
The worst thing I'll have to get a 5mm spacer or something. Then I have to consider it not rubbing the fender ...
Car is 100% stock. I'll get max camber that I can from stock suspension.
10 front, even with a 15mm spacer will get into the tie rod on the front and the toe control arm on the rear. Rub at less than full lock guarantee. No more than -1 camber with stock setup.
What are you trying to accomplish with the setup ? You've mentioned autoX but why such a wide fronts , there is very little benefit and why ?
usually 45-57 ET front for 8-9.5" wheels
rears should be 55-67 ET for 10-12" wheels - wider the wheel, the higher the offset should be - happy medium is around 60ET
If you want cheap wheels look at 18" NB (narrow body) 997 wheels - they come in 10-11" widths allow for 265-285 tires, usually go for $400-1000
specs for you...

I don't know why you are saying "very little" benefit. 255 is an adequate size tire for the front. More rubber = more grip.
255 is 10" wide, so a 10" rim would be perfect for it
You always want the widest rim the tire can fit. That optimizes the contact patch.
I think I'm gonna take a spacer, attach some wood to it and turn it to see what it hits.
My wheel well measurements aren't accurate enough.
In my mind if 255/45R17 ET55 on a 9" fits, a 255/35R18 ET50 on 10" should fit too.
Was hoping someone actually tried sticking it there before me.
OP - People have done it before over the last 15 years. One 996T guy did it with -3.2 camber and only got 3/4 of full steering with that negative camber. Probably not what you’d want for AutoX. But, hey, go for it.
Too much front tire creates turning issues because of the weight distribution on our cars. There is a tire size "balance" and bigger is not always better.
there is plenty of info out there and u may want to check in the autox section to see if a 255 is a good idea.
OP, take a look at this link to Apex wheels fitment guide. You certainly can try to fit any size you want, but this guide is one of the best at defining sizing options that will fit and tire availability. It will probably save you alot of headaches and money.

Your tires/wheel specs are kind of all messed up.
I would start with this:
Front: 18x9 ET46 // Rear: 18x11 ET60
Front: 18x8.5 ET45 // Rear: 18x11 ET60

I am running a 18x9 inch front wheel and a 18x11.5 rear with 245/40 18 and 295/30 18 Michelin Pilot Sport 4s. That should be all you need for auto x. I wouldn't try to fit a 10 inch front wheel.
I am running 255/35/18 on a 18x10 45mm offset in the front. I would have gone 18x9.5 but the wheels I have do not have them in that width.
I am on coilovers lowered about 2.5in from stock with -1.9 camber on the fronts. I have about 4mm clearance. No rubbing at all.
That said, I'm not sure if this setup would fit on stock suspension due to how bulky the stock strut/coils are
Agreed. I have plenty of room for a 295/35/18. I had a 305/30 19 before and it also didn't rub with the car on H&R springs and B6s. The author has plenty of options, but not really with 1000 bucks as the budget. That doesn't even buy a set of tires. The easiest/cheapest thing would be to buy some used OZs in OEM or GT3 spec and just run them. They pop up pretty frequently as many people use them as track wheels.

I also wouldn't run Victor Equipment wheels:

Yep. A possible cheaper option that's very light and very durable may be to find a set of cheap Carrera 2 wheels (8x18,10x18) that aren't shiny and pretty, but solid and straight, and slap on a set of sticky 200w 235s and 295s. Bridgestone RE71RS or Yoko AO52 which are pretty sticky without warmup.
This will save the OP quite a bit of money so he can upgrade the suspension set-up including a set of aftermarket sway bars to get the car to rotate.
But that's the great thing about 996 ownership. You can try whatever you want on your car. We all love to see it.
Final setup and i love the result. The car is well balanced. More rubber in the front does not upset the balance and allows for good cornering speeds.

Fronts are barely touching the liner at full lock, but after several years of driving there are no visible marks, so no problem here.
Rear tires are not touching fenders, good clearance in all directions.
This is what it looks like
Interesting sizes. Curious as to what you have done for suspension upgrades and settings to make the tire sizes work. I know you autocross, but have you tracked the car yet?
Yes, I honestly don't understand why Porsches come with such skinny front tires. The car feels pretty good to my taste. I did 2 track events. Track or autocross, you get more cornering speed. Additionally, this is not too different from the stock ratio. It was 205/255
I have a Bilstein B12 suspension kit. But the picture is with stock and as you can see It fits as is with those offsets. I have pretty aggressive camber settings, but just right for autocross. I still end up needing to inflate rears to 36PSI to not roll into the side wall beyond the mark.
Using a wider front tire width is certainly a way to eliminate understeer instead of adjustable coilovers and sway bars with autocrossing.
If you track your car, you may find more traditional wheel sizes in the front may get you more stability, balance, control and speed. Not to mention a more stable back end. Its a tricky balance on the track.
Car looks great btw.
What is the ride height. I would have done a 315 in the back.
245/35 and 315/30 is my preferred setup. Feel like at my ride height there would be too much rubbing.
I think Aaron has used the 255 Hoosiers.
Yea the 255s fit with no rubbing at the gt3 height but i use a 8.5" rim. No need to use a 10" and ballon the tire. I would use a 9" if i could find some used. My 8.5" rims a et46 and 54 (i think) and i use a 7 or 12mm spacer with a 4.1* camber.
Im happy on the track with a 245/305 (or 315) combo in an nt-01, 255/315 in a hossier r7, 245/305 perelli slick, 250/300 hankook slick and im trying the 250/300 in a yokahama slick next weekend. They all seem to grip fine using 8.5/11" rims
For those planning to autocross..
That statement is not 100% accurate. For the optimal performance we need the rim width to match the tire contact patch. For a 255/35/18 it is precisely 10". Unless you are running an R compound tire with a very stiff sidewall (which most people do not and use 200tw instead), otherwise it is just an added unsprung wait for the most part.
My ride height currently looks like the car above. The rear tires are just inside the fender edge (fenders are not rolled). And i don't think i have that much space to go with a bigger offset. For my car at least which is a C2 11" rim and 295 is the widest i can go. I think GT3 has a little more space and you can go with a bigger tire/rim combo.
If u go with and et-60-63 u have room for the 305and 315 tires. (Maybe roll fender too). Gt3 uses a c4 chassis so its the same wheel well as all other carreras in the back.
