Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I have installed the Shift Right along with a 997 short shifter, and the Function First ****.

Things improved greatly after replacing the engine mounts.

I think the factory shifter probably degrades over time (e.g., tolerances open up), but Function-First replaces the factory plastic with metal and ball bearings.

However, I do not think that the other changes made to the engine and tranny mounts effect a cable linkage shifter the same as a rod linkage shifter as on previous models, i.e.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I recently installed the Shift Right parts and it’s one of the best things I did to my 996. Shifter feels much more solid and smooth, and all previous problems finding gates (i.e., engaging 1st at a stop, downshifting into 2nd, and upshifting into 3rd) have disappeared. There seems to be a little more drag, but this is better than the looseness that I felt before. But it could also be I tightened the various bolts too tight - but I like the way it feels.
I do have a 997 shifter and had metal shifter bushings from Phenix Engineering, and have the Function-First transmission mount inserts (orange) and semi solid engine mounts. Don’t know if this is cumulative, but the Shift Right parts made a huge difference with the way it feels. I think the factory shifter probably degrades over time (e.g., tolerances open up), but Function-First replaces the factory plastic with metal and ball bearings. Highly recommended.
Good to hear. I have been contemplating this kit too but on a stock 996 shifter. Things improved greatly after replacing the engine mounts. So much so that I dont see the need to buy an aftermarket or 997 shifter.
I also installed the F1 shifter kit a couple of years ago and it made a significant difference by firming up the shifter play as you described. However, I do not think that the other changes made to the engine and tranny mounts effect a cable linkage shifter the same as a rod linkage shifter as on previous models, i.e. 993.
i have installed other F1 products and like them a lot.
I see there are two versions
996 & 997 SRS
Are they interchangeable? meaning that the 997 SRS fits a 996 but has a shorter throw then the 996 SRS?
The webpage and instructions do not mention anything.
I know this is an old thread, but just looking for clarity on what you actually fitted
in regards to the actual linkage, did you only fit the Phenix bushings, or did you fit the other parts from the Function First shift right solution?
