Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I didn't recognize it at first as someone had used a zip-tie to fix mine so they had drilled a hole in the broken part and zipped through. I understand why taking a shortcut was considered after having fixed it the correct way.

You may want to disconnect the battery when messing in there, I didnt and the window decided to come down while my hand was deep in there.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just solved the previous problem I posted about where the brakes were dragging and now the outside door handle has broken? I'm not sure it's the handle but the door will only open from the inside. I'm about ready to remove the door panel to diagnose. Any ideas of what to look for? It's a '99

POST 2Original post

There is a plastic holder clip that goes over a short threaded rod that actuates the latch from the handle. It may have broken.

POST 3Original post

In this thread are some great pictures of what you will see. Indeed, there is a plastic sleeve that connects the door handle to the door latch. Might have broke or come undone. Note please, not only is the plastic sleeve necessary to connect the door handle to the latch, but there is also a collar that slides up and snaps on the plastic sleeve to hold it in place. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...-detailed.html

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the help but I'm stuck. There is a threaded rod that connects the handle to the locking mechanism that is disconnected. There are matching holes that need to be connected by a small rod? a # 8 machine screw? a what? Whatever connected the rod to the locking mechanism is gone and not in the door bottom. What was it?

POST 5Original post

Plastic clip that goes to the latch, the threaded rod stays with the handle.

POST 6Original post

The black 90 degree part is what attaches it to the latch, it has a lock in it to hold it in place, mine had a zip tie which I replaced. You may want to disconnect the battery when messing in there, I didnt and the window decided to come down while my hand was deep in there.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That's it! Thanks. $6.91 for a new one. Probably the cheapest Porsche part ever! And of course, a back order. Bob

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Addick posted the photo of the faulty part. I didn't recognize it at first as someone had used a zip-tie to fix mine so they had drilled a hole in the broken part and zipped through. I understand why taking a shortcut was considered after having fixed it the correct way. What a PAIN!!! My local independent Porsche guy wanted 3 1/2 hours at $175 to do it. It took me longer as there is a strict procedure for reassembly that I figured out, the hard way. Anyway, it's FIXED Bob
