I was thinking of using POR15 or taking it to the sandblaster/powdercoater but it's close to the price of a new one...

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm getting a few parts I need to replace on my 2002 996 turbo and wanted to add these smaller items to my order but I'm having trouble finding part #s - Battery tray nuts (all 4 of mine are rusted/flaky), not the battery hold down bolt - Plastic tie down for the battery tray cover that sits on top of the battery - T25 torx screw for rear fender liner - Rear Brake light screws, one of light tabs are broken and missing a screw, bought the plastic light savers from Clint Thanks

999-084-630-01 That's part of an aftermarket battery. The OEM battery hold down is a bent metal piece that goes on the right side of the battery at the bottom. for the self tap screws with washer heads they're a VW part: N90648702 The screw for the light is 999-073-250-09. Please note that the light itself contains a floating tube/washer that's part of the light and not available separately. If the ears on your light are broken off these tube/washers are missing, you won't need them with the light savers.

The 1/4 turn fastener is 999-590-045-40 I think this one is 999-703-432-40, or that may be the top one you still have? The other one for the side carpet is 999-507-529-40.

POST 6Original post

Not to hijack your thread, but, does anyone know of a plastic battery tray for our cars? Seems to me that would take care of any potential rust issues.

Good Lord! First, get an AGM battery that does not off gas anything, H6 or H7 from your local AutoZone or local auto supply store. New technology does count and work. Repair your battery tray and upgrade your bolts and nuts to stainless steel, which you can get from your local Home Depot or Ace Hardware store. This is not rocket science...just common sense.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

@DBJoe996 Looks good is that painted or powdercoated? I was thinking of using POR15 or taking it to the sandblaster/powdercoater but it's close to the price of a new one...

POST 9Original post

I at first tried to paint it flat black. The paint looked horrible and would not stick. I took it to a local metal finishing shop. They sand blasted it, primed it, painted it and baked it. Amazingly, they were able to protect the foam seal on the bottom of the tray. I think it was like $50 out the door. In my opinion, they did a perfect job.
