Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Check bulbs first thing' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check bulbs' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Thanks. We replaced the switch located on the transmission but this did not rectify the issue.

Another option is to just replace ignition switch.

While replacing the switch we noted that we are not getting power to the switch when the ignition switch is on.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I had a 996 a few years ago and I've been helping a friend chase this down. Here's a summary of the process we've been through. Any ideas are welcomed. Thanks. We replaced the switch located on the transmission but this did not rectify the issue.
The fuse is good - the fuse is also in line for the power mirrors and they are working.
There is a relay under the rear cargo deck in the cabin and we have checked it. It is fine.
While replacing the switch we noted that we are not getting power to the switch when the ignition switch is on. I believe that we should be able to register power to this point with the ignition on.
Does anyone have any ideas on why power is not making it to the switch on the transmission before we start chasing the proverbial electrical gremlins?
Have u checked the bulbs?
looks like b6 is the fuse, then it goes to bridge plug 16/2 pin a7 is the output to switch, black/orange wire. Not sure where this bridge plug is, i assume at the fuse block in foot well? There is a connector on the floor drivers sde b-piler area calls x2/4 and pin 22 is from the bridge plug
the other side of the switch black/blue goes to bridge plug 20/1. I think its under the rear deck and part of the relay center. Pin a1 is in and a2 is the output to the tail light
Okay, I dont have a 2002 and you may have tried all this, but heres what I found.
The back-up switch gets power from bridge point 16/2, which gets power from fuse B5. The power supply has to run through connector X2/4, which is located in drivers door. Not sure if that is where connector is located, but if you find connector it is white with 30 pins. Back-up light voltage goes through pin#22. Should have 12 volts at that connection, which goes to one side of switch.
If that connector is in door that might explain why there is no continuity.
Another option is to just replace ignition switch.
