Last year 265/35 winter rears were stretched on the stock 18x11 rear rims, this year I found 2 18x10 et47 rims and running the same 265/35 per the owner's manual

A friend did offer me use of his Jeep but i thought "they have sh*tty weather in Germany, this is why i bought the 4s and not a C2"
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Faced with an hour drive under perfect conditions, today i had to make it in seriously terrible conditions. 996 4s with Pirelli winter tires came through without a hitch Stayed mainly in 3rd and moved at 55 while most were crawling at 30. I love this car! Bought it to drive year round and it hasn't disappointed me in 30k miles.

A good set of snow tires makes a big difference. I remember the last wet and snowy winter we had a few years ago here in the NE and my GTI did way better than I thought. 4S probably would be more fun though.
Are your winter Pirellis on18x10s, stretched onto 18x11s or is there a P295 winter tire available? I have blizzaks stretched to their maximum on 18x11s but eventually I want either 295s on those wheels of get a proper winter sized 18x10 wheel.

Just returned from the 120 mile R/T. Going was much worse than coming back as the snow had stopped and plowing/salting had made major roads much better. Two things to note, near the end of my 1st segment I noticed temp gauge more past 180 than normal, almost half way to next line. When I arrived I noticed my entire front end was encased in ice and snow, severely restricting air flow to the front radiators. Removed as much as I could and all was back to normal. Driving home few hours later when I reached cruising speed (roads were almost normal but wet) the car was shaking noticeably and I could feel the steering wheel vibrate in my hands, almost as if i had rocks in my treads. Pulled into a rest stop, again removed a ton of ice and snow from front grill and lots of ice that had accumulated over the frunk and other panels, and all was good once more.
My choice was the 996 or my Chevy Volt with non-winter rather worn tires. A friend did offer me use of his Jeep but i thought "they have sh*tty weather in Germany, this is why i bought the 4s and not a C2"
Glad you like your C4s but wouldn't any C4 w/winter tires do just as well? The "s" only has 20 more HP. So, can't see how that would matter.
But, personally, in such conditions I'd drive my AWD MB SUV or my 4x4 F250 instead because I only have summer tires on my 2000 C4 Cab and only drive it when tthe roads are dry.
Wasn't meaning to put down C4 models, when I was looking for my 1st 911 I knew I wanted a year round car and saw the 4s, saw those hips, and bought it. I was a nube, knew rwd vs awd but I probably didn't even know the C4 was nb at the time.
Driving throw the snow one time in my 4S w/ Blizzaks I had snow/ice accumulation on the inner wheels that caused bad pronounced vibrations in the steering wheel. Once I was able to pull off the freeway (no exits for several miles...ugh) and get a look I saw all the snow/ice build up on the wheel with some ice stuck or built up between the caliper and the inner wheel.
Having lived in Germany for many years, I can tell you that there are a lot of C2's driven during winter and snow conditions, as well as many other RWD Benzes, BMWs and just about anything else. The key is good snow tires, not necessarily AWD. Pretty much any 911 model is driven year round in Germany.
Back in the day in the States about the only four wheel drives where lightly redesigned WW2 style Jeeps. So for winter you made sure you had good tires or, if you could afford it, you bought a pair of snow tires. Oh and there were tire chains made out of real chain! When Subaru hit they were mostly a curiosity.
Dagnabbit!
My C2 on Pilot Sport AS3+ have been more then adequate for this winters weather, in Eastern PA. I love how smooth and progressive the car handles a drifting scenario. I love this thing so much. Best winter beater ever!
