They replaced Michelin pilot super sports on my Audi as I didn't feel the PS4S were worth double the firehawk.

I have used Fk453s, Pilot Super Sport, Pzeros, and PS2.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I need to get a new set of tires and don't want to pay $2,000 CAD for a set of PS2s. I daily drive my car with plenty of highway driving and some spirited drives.
I have the turbo twists and want to get 225/40R and 295/30R. Here are my options:
Falken Azenis FK510
General G-Max RS
Hankook Ventus V12 evo
Sumi HT5
If it really comes down to it, I guess I can consider the PS2 or PZero. Let me know what you guys think!
I just went through this on my 996 (In Ontario), and ended up getting Firestone Firehawks in 225/40/18 and 275/35/18 on Turbo twists. Very happy with the tires (also have them on my S4) and I like the sizes for my C2.
Some very good pricing on these available from PMC. They replaced Michelin pilot super sports on my Audi as I didn't feel the PS4S were worth double the firehawk.
I have a set of the General G-Max RS on my C4S and they've been great. I had a couple hydroplaning experiences in the Bridgestone tires that the previous owner had on the car, so focused on getting a replacement tire that would be good in the rain.
Although, I'm seeing that Tirerack now has Continental ExtremeContact Sport tires in our size. I have a set of these as summer tires on my WRX and only have good things to say.
Hi,
I have had a few sets of the Sumitomo tires. HTR3 and now HTR5s. They seem nice and and they are pretty quite when they are new. Honestly, I got this car at 47k(now 103k) and I've Never had the $500 tires on them. So I guess ignorance is bliss.
So many reasonable responses! I've read countless threads of guys trying to be heroes with their PS2 praise.
I see the Extreme Contact Sport is now offered in our size. I'm now deciding between Sumi, General, and Extreme Contact.
The challenge is the 295/30/18 tire for C4S. Barely any tire selection and Michelin doesn't even make the PSS or PS4S in these sizes. There are basically no extreme performance tire selections other than the PS2 unless you want to step up to cup 2's.
Awesome to see the contis making the size. I think they have a 340 tread rating which is miles better than the PS2. I would seriously consider these for a next tire. Obviously you're sacrificing grip, but the selections you have listed are a step down from PS2. Out of those selections, I'd go with the contis first and maybe the general g-max second. I've had good experience with general tires on my truck.
i just put the Generals on my 2003 c2. I went with 235/295 on the stock ltw wheels. I am very happy with the tires, no rubbing, no spacers needed. For the money this is an amazing tire. I would have to drive them back to back with the MPSS. That is normally my go to tire for street cars.
We have 13000 miles on general G Max and nothing really to say about them other than very little wear. They definitely reduce the cost of 911 ownership because they cost much less than Porsche approved tires and a wear much longer.
On an '02 C2 we wanted larger than wimpy looking stock sizes, so got 235/40 front with slight rub at full lock, and 295/30 rear.
Next time will try 285/35 rear because current is smaller diameter than front.
Another happy General G-Max RS user here. On a C2 I went with GT3 spec sizing which is 235/40/18 and 295/30/18 and they have been great. I may want to consider 285/35 as mentioned above to get some more sidewall next time. I really wanted to try MPSS but heard their performance really starts to degrade as they wear and because of that I couldn't justify the premium.
I think we are supposed to be embarrassed that we only want to dump one wheelbarrow of cash into our 911s, instead of eagerly dumping multiple wheelbarrows full of cash.
Are you both running 8" front and 10" back? I have a 996.1 but the prior owner put on the 8" and 10" 18's which I like but my current 285/30's are not very popular sizes. I also want to go 235/40 front and the 285/35 rear in the new Michelin All Season 4. I think the mk1 and mk2 have the same set up so this size should be fine???
I have used Fk453s, Pilot Super Sport, Pzeros, and PS2.
The PSS and PS2 are so close. But look at the tread width of the PS2. Tire rack measures each tire they sell. The PS2 is much wider than the other tires. The 295 is as wide as other brands 315.
I put a new set of PS2s on last spring for
$1610+tax Canadian.
Very happy with extreme contact dw. Wearing reasonably well and stick like glue on the curves. Hard to say how loud they are since theyre pretty fat but MUCH more comfortable than the cup tires it came with. Those were like riding on the rims.
