Increased displacement doesn't necessarily mean you'll have a hotter running engine.

Suggestion

Well if you have room for one somewhere, and you have a easy way of running lines out the sump, then it could be as easy as finding the right radiator and running lines to it, along with an additional pump.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Anyone know of a front oil cooler kit for an '02 996 engine? I see there is a water radiator kit @ Pelican to place in front but no oil cooler. LN Engineering has the adapter plate that installs in place of the heat ex-changer [also known as an oil cooler] but what of the other related parts such as the oil lines and fittings to get the oil to and from the oil cooler? If there is, would you happen to know where to buy a kit like this or what parts make up a kit like?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Having the IMS afflicted engine built to 4.0 with some [quite a few] 'enhancements'.

POST 4Original post

Neat. Who's doing the engine bump to 4.0, JR? Pics please.

Unlike the air/oil cooled cars, the 996 oil pump does not have the capacity to pump the oil to the front of the car, through a cooler and back. If you tried fitting a front mounted cooler you would have very little pressure (and volume) by the time it returned back the engine.

Still don't know why you would need an oil cooler. Increased displacement doesn't necessarily mean you'll have a hotter running engine. Your builder knows best and if they thought it needed one, they would've included it in the 4.0 upgrade. By chance do you have a 3rd center radiator already?

POST 7Original post

Well if you have room for one somewhere, and you have a easy way of running lines out the sump, then it could be as easy as finding the right radiator and running lines to it, along with an additional pump. Your builder should be able to help a bit more with parts and stuff. Also if you're worried about heat, they make head temp gauges that attach to spark plugs and/or if something like this could work that would be pretty neat - http://shop.avionics.co.nz/edm700 For fun sometime I want to put a regular temp gauge like that on my old motorcycle. Looks bobber/steampunk enough, and wouldn't be bad data to have.
