Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Fill rl quota of cynical/sarcastic and totally unhelpful replies' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Fill rl quota of cynical/sarcastic and totally unhelpful replies' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Totally normal, and a good way to test the clutch switch- as you can tell, the throttle map changes with the clutch engaged.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.
Curios if anyone else has noticed this on their car. Mine is a 2004
After the car has been run at full operating temperature I can not hold the revs steady below 2200 rpm off idle in neutral. Slight pressure on the throttle and the revs automatically climb to about 2200 rpm, no matter how slightly I lift off the throttle the revs stay at 2200 until dropping immediately back to about 800 at idle.
No problem when cold or when first reaching operating temperature. Car needs to be run for a bit at full op temp.
Had the tech confirm this today. Tech suspects this could be initial symptom of a failing MAF but no codes are present. I would like to avoid a trial and error fix.
Thanks in advance

Next time I'll just have it flat bedded to the dealer and have the engine removed and address every real and imagined MOF and just be done with it.
Nice break by giving the C4S a nice hot soapy bath - finally a day decent enough to do so.
Motor runs fantastic - pulls like a banshee - but the reason for the off idle question came about as we attempt to diagnose the vibration on decel. I knew we were grasping at straws but hey, the vibration does not happen until engine is run at full operating temp and the off idle in neutral also does not happen until run at full operating temp. So tech was just trying to put things together and states that the vario-cam plus operates based on engine load and that one of the signals is from the MAF.... but thanks to knowledge shared here we know that the assumed correlation is flawed - and that my MAF is not.
In fairness to the tech he did say he would need to see the off idle in neutral with a known good car and since they see fewer and fewer 996's in the shop he didn't think he'd have a chance to do that.
Fewer, and fewer, and fewer.... I did tell him that there are plenty of them out there, just that they are waiting in queue in Georgia for a few years.
Maybe good news is the vibration is well documented and the Service Manager said that should an engine issue develop the warranty would be extended for another year - warranty on crate motor expires in like two weeks.
