Leading evidence: 'Use friend the 'power bleeder'' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace color every flush was a great way' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I've used Speed Bleeders in the past with great results.

Suggestion
Bummer that the gub'mint banned the blue brake fluid - changing color every flush was a great way to know when you had all the old fluid out.

Suggestion
Gravity bleeding is ok for some cars and if you have the time and don't mind using more fluid.

Suggestion
That being said, a full set of Speed Bleeders for the 996 ( 8 ) would cost about as much as the Motive unit, and the Motive can be used on multiple vehicles.

Suggestion
I don't know too many peeps that wanna monitor their brake fluid resevoir for that long and keep topping it up or waste brake fluid if they are using premium expensive fluid.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The motive power bleeders are cheap and work fast - I just did flush/bleed to 2 cars this way - very easy . Since brakes are critical I would do this - rather than gravity and risk air getting back into caliper due to minimal pressure gradient (15 psi worked great on pressure bleeder)
Gravity is not sufficient to jam fluid through the ABS pump. Pick up some speed bleeders and/or a power bleeder.
The Large Hadron Collider will be back online as early as tomorrow, so gravity may not be reliable for future brake bleeding.
Gravity Bleed?????????????. Never heard of that one. Probably because gravity does not work in bleeding brakes. You must be a very lonely person not to have the foot of a friend to help you in bleeding your brake system or at least putting his foot up your **** for even thinking of it. I use my friend the 'power bleeder'. "I get bye with a little help from my friend".....
Are you sure were not talking about a flush instead of a bleed? I know for a fact 2 of the Indy shops around me do perform gravity bleeds but of course they don't flush them with gravity.
I apologize, my post is worded incorrectly. I do mean flush. But...
Prior cars, I have done both with gravity. For the flush, just removed as much of the old fluid from the master as possible with a turkey baster and then added new fluid and just let gravity take over. Just watched TV or did other chores while old fluid and air came out. It will take about an hour, but was easy to do in the middle of the night, when I typically have time to do things.
For the bleed, at the track, just took of wheels and bled the air out.
But, I do agree after doing more research on this car, that the ABS system can pose an issue with just gravity.
Gravity bleed isn't as effective on Brembo's that have the air nipple pointing upward. There are numerous peeps that have tried with less than stellar results.
Unlike house plumbing where as long as liquid sits higher than the exit and liquid will flow freely down, this isn't always the case when dealing with cars considering fluid density, caliper design, abs, master cylinder design, etc.
Then you have the time aspect. Most reports place it around 2 hours and easily over a liter to gravity bleed typical Brembo's. I don't know too many peeps that wanna monitor their brake fluid resevoir for that long and keep topping it up or waste brake fluid if they are using premium expensive fluid. Also if you forget to top it off and the fluid reaches below a certain point on the master cylinder, you've introduced air into the MC which can also require a special bleed procedure just for that. Not worth it to a lot of people IMO.
Gravity bleeding is ok for some cars and if you have the time and don't mind using more fluid.
But most will opt to do it other ways like power flushing via something like Motiv, good ole pumping brakes, using speed bleeders.
You can also make a DIY Motiv style bleeder system for $20 or less from common parts at the store as well. Here's one example:

Or you can get speed bleeder screws which are also relatively cheap.
I've used Speed Bleeders in the past with great results. That being said, a full set of Speed Bleeders for the 996 ( 8 ) would cost about as much as the Motive unit, and the Motive can be used on multiple vehicles. When I get to bleeding/flushing my brakes, I'll be buying the Motive.
Actually this is important to note for our Brembos since it requires two per caliper. So to get a complete set, you're looking around $45-$50. Great catch thewheelman.
