Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

Suggestion

There's a portable self made tool for control arm bushings for a BMW for example and I'd imagine something like that could work in this situation but you'd probably have to fab one up unless the size is close enough to use a bmw one.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

After reading a bunch of threads on this I'm still a bit confused. Is it possible to replace the entire mount (not just the rubber bit) in a 1999 manual cabriolet without dropping the entire transmission? It seems that it can be done by lowering the transmission just a bit on a jack. I would rather just replace the entire mount ($185) rather than put in a Function-First insert ($130) as the full replacement seems like a much better solution to a worn out bushing.

POST 2Original post

How will you press it out when the trans is in place? There's a portable self made tool for control arm bushings for a BMW for example and I'd imagine something like that could work in this situation but you'd probably have to fab one up unless the size is close enough to use a bmw one.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So its only on the Turbos that the entire unit can come off the transmission ( as shown below ) ?

POST 4Original post

The singular black piece centered at the end of the tranny is what you have to press out. The housing is integral to the tranny case as you can see.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Got it. Thanks, that picture says it all. Just another reason to want a Turbo. Should I be able to get a good look at the condition of the bushing from below (after I take the covers off) ?
