Question I have is how hard is it to replace these caps?

Not sure if this is genuine or sarcastic but the caps are easy to replace they just pop out and the new pop in.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So took my new to me '00 996 on our first significant road trip this week. When I got to my destination I was sad to see 3 of my 4 colored wheel crests decided to detach from the wheel center cap somewhere along the way! The center caps are still there of course it's just the Porsche crests that are missing. I guess the OEM glue lasts about 20 years apparently! So now I'll be shopping for replacements now so I don't ride around on these ghetto looking wheels. Question I have is how hard is it to replace these caps? I'm assuming they pop off and on fairly easily right? Thankfully the can ran like a champ over my 500 mile trip! (Only accumulated about 240 miles during my first 5 months of ownership so this was definitely an adventure!)
Here is a home made tool to pop out the caps made from a coat hanger. Just stick it in the two holes of the cap and give a tug.
Also, I have an old set of caps sitting in my garage...is this what yours look like
Thanks for the responses. Lowpue, 3 of mine are missing the Porsche crest in the middle, it just flew off! The 4th looks good but the crest is a little loose, so likely only a matter of time before it goes. I'll get a set of 4 to get it back to new. Sounds like going the homemade tool route!
Same thing just happened to me. Noticed that one of my colored crests had fallen off. I ordered 4 new caps so they all match and I'm waiting for them to arrive.

So ordered a replacement matching set of 4 from Suncoast and got them on the car today. Slight difference from originals...the crest is definitely larger and there is no ring around the crest like the originals have. Paid about $165 for the set. They look pretty good but would say they definitely don't match the originals exactly. Maybe that's just the way it goes...
I had a similar thing happen on my MY2000. One of the crests was missing, and then a couple of days later they were all missing. I bought cheap Chinese crests for a couple of dollars and stuck them on. They look pretty good from about 3 feet away, but not so good close up. If my car was a concours car I would buy the OEM crests, but the cheap ones complement my curb-rashed wheels.
Ditto on the Chinese knock offs. Same thing happened on my 928 a number of years ago. FWIW, be aware of what you are buying. There are knockoff caps out there that look very close to the originals, with a slightly larger crest - I guess similar to the newer center caps that they are probably copies of. I have a set of them on both my 928 and 996. Honestly, they've held up fine for many years and they were quite a bit cheaper than OEM. My car is a "driver" and I'm not really worried about OEM quality issues on something like center caps.
Almost all the knock-offs will say "Made in Italy" on the back. I'm guessing they are actually out of China, but somewhere along the way someone made a mold of a cap that came out of Italy. They used to be all over eBay, but Porsche really cracked down on selling unlicensed knock-offs. Still, if you look around, you can find them easily.

OK...its time for my confession....I must admit I have a center cap fetish...I have more caps then I need. In fact, I even have some amazing faux centerlock caps made by the same 986forum member who made the stunning projector headlight conversions. They were made in China but I have never seen any of this quality.
