Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
If so, it becomes more attractive because the aftermarket solutions to maintain all functionality of the stock amp really drive up the price of installation, as does the replacement of the amp and rewiring or replacing speakers to keep the right impedance....of course the bigger issue is that $1700 U.S.
Leading evidence: 'Replace speakers' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace speakers' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Would anyone install one of these in their 996? I actually really like the look of the stock head unit and ended up just plugging an iphone interface adapter into the aux which has worked great, but this is pretty cool. The 996 photo at the bottom shows a double din install so I would imagine we would have to relocate the hvac controls to the bottom.. or perhaps the radio unit allows control too? That would be very slick.
Very cool. I would definitely consider this.
A quick reverse image search led me to this which has another photo showing the stock heater controls repositioned below.

Wow. Very very cool. I may have to drop for this. Albeit, pricey, I prefer a factory option (I'm glad I hadn't gone the aftermarket route yet...). Well done.

So will the clock date default to 2000 from GPS be fixed and was this for MOST system on the 2003 with PCM? other wise it is way to go to stay OEM as much as possible. Brings the car right into the future.
Fine print says it deletes the CD player functionality, which is no great loss from a functionality standpoint but I happen to think the CD changer in the trunk is retro cool but I'm an idiot. Does Porsche insist on installing themselves, or can you walk out with it?
I read the C&D article on these. One of my next projects will be installing a CarPlay system in my '99 C2. Personally, I'll be getting an aftermarket unit (which one still TBD). I can see how the single DIN unit from Porsche will be compelling because it keeps the original look & feel. I'm moving to a double DIN and for me the extra $700-$1K I would pay for the Porsche branded unit over a Pioneer or Kenwood with the same capabilities isn't worth it to me.
It might be a great option for people who have the PCM system installed as I think it integrates cleanly with that.
Per the Porsche site:
"Porsche
Classic recommends having the installation carried out professionally by your
Porsche
Classic Partner or
Porsche
Centre."
Looks like you can walk out with it and install yourself.
I saw that, but they state the single is for cars up to 993. Need to find out if that is simple marketing or if there's a technical reason. My guess would be more towards the latter. Additionally, my car is a 2003 with Bose/MOST, which is a double whammy for incompatibility. I'm going to put an inquiry in to my dealer, but I'm not holding my breath.
Does any audio guru's here know if this unit will display the OBDII info from a Bluetooth OBDII dongle on the Double Din screen? This would really be the only reason I would want one.
For those who are going to ask the dealership about its availability, can you also ask which company manufacturers the unit? I'm assuming Alpine, but still curious.

I didn't have success when I was playing around with it, but that was over a year ago (before my engine troubles) so I'd imagine there's been some improvements made.
The only mention of Bose is that it doesn't work with the Bose AutoPilot system. The specs provided didn't seem overly technical, so I don't think they actually addressed whether it would work with the '03 with Bose fibre optic connections. If so, it becomes more attractive because the aftermarket solutions to maintain all functionality of the stock amp really drive up the price of installation, as does the replacement of the amp and rewiring or replacing speakers to keep the right impedance....of course the bigger issue is that $1700 U.S. translates to $2,300 Canadian, so it will b sold for $2999 by the Canadian dealers.
The location in the dash isn't high enough for a GPS. I keep wanting to put a screen in the dash, but my phone mounted on the windshield is just as good, and in a better location.
Sounds like I will still have to pass on the Double Din Big Screen then.
Seems like it would be so simple, it already has Blue Tooth. Probably just needs a little bit of software and a chip. Hell I would gladly give up the reverse Camera for OBDII Torque display, I have no problems backing up...lol
Massive upgrade to OEM CR-210 (base radio w/cd changer). ApplePlay, google maps, SiriusXM through the phone app. (plus I put in upgraded speakers and amp)
I might like the Carplay integration if I used my 996 for commuting, but I dont think the big screens really fit these cars.
I like that my Porsche doesnt have cup holders, a glove box, or a screen. Its for focused on the driving experience.
I have a single din head unit with Bluetooth from the previous owner, and it does what I want: connects my phone audio to the car Stereo so I can listen to music. My only complaint is it looks cheap and flashy. Id like simple unit with amber display that still has Bluetooth and a USB port. Im considering one of these Continental head units

But this

and this Amazon Echo Auto

. And you have 1400 for parts. The continental deck works and looks great in the car. the echo auto works fairly well.
I was excited initially but then I was disappointed:
the design of buttons & frame is almost aftermarket. it gets even worse when you see the "factory" integration of the input box in the lower cubby.
what killed it for me was being in-compatible with Bose (hence fibroptic /MOST).
