Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. I mainly bought this 996 as a DD and weekend track toy to test our Porsche BBK line up on it.

Amberectomy is using a soldering iron to remove the under the headlight cover orange reflector modification.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey Guys,
New 996 owner and first time rennlister. I recently purchased a 1999 Porsche Carrera 2. It had 170,xxx miles on it and came with maintenance records and was checked out ok.
It has had the clutch, it's currently at the shop getting a LN Engineering IMS retrofit (dual row) and some other misc. preventative maintenance done.
As for who I am, I am 23, a graduate from CU Boulder and am the Sales & Marketing Manager of North America for Sparta Evolution. We R&D and manufacture forged BBK's.
I mainly bought this 996 as a DD and weekend track toy to test our Porsche BBK line up on it. I already purchased a schnell intake, fabspeed headers, and fabspeed muffler delete. I will be pursuing KW coilovers, RSR style widebody flares, 2000+ Headlights, and a EvoMS tune and enjoying the car.
Just wanted to say hi!
Haha, Darrick is that you? Recognized that username instantly!
I moved back up to Redmond, let's grab a beer sometime. Car's currently at Chris's German Auto. Heard Chris & Acker's was the best up here
Your first mod should be some of your company's massive "breaks" on that sucker.
Welcome and I wish I had a 911 at age 23. But probably not or I'd probably would've gotten in a bunch of trouble, law and girl wise.
We've actually have been extensively testing on a RWB 993. Flying out to Malaysia/Singapore for work to do some more testing on a 993/930. Doing air cooled stuff first then the water cooled.
So looking at the headlights, has anyone noticed that the ambers on the 99 almost seem painted on? There is clear plastic under it and there is an extra thickness due to the ambers.
Has anyone tried sanding that amber down/out?
I love the 996 front end look, just want the ambers gone.
They are much better than the single rows with a failure rate of 1%, however, I did not want to risk it especially with the mileage of the vehicle. Rather safe than sorry, and I plan on heavily tracking the vehicle for open lap days and any PCA/POC events.
Does Sparta have a brake kit application for the 996 yet? The web site doesn't seem to have
any
application details...
(
Really should talk to the Marketing Manager about that
:-)
Maybe set up a Rennlist 996 brake kit group buy once things get sorted?
pcst:
I flew down to SF and purchased it there then drove up. Still need to get it registered here in WA though.
Haha, I would if I could. The boss has asked us to not put up our application guide as our hard launch for products actually begins mid May. At that point, our application chart will be uploaded on to the website and we'll be good to go.
As for the group buy, I may be able to work something out, personally. But I need to speak with Rennlist first regarding vendors etc. as I do not want to be breaking an forum rules.
But as I had asked before, has anyone ever tried sanding the amber out of the 99 headlight housings? It seems to be painted on top of a clear housing
.
Also for you guys here, what's your opinion on putting this wheel in? I saved the wheel from my previous car. It's a real wood grain 3-spoke nardi.
No input on the amber lights... I have an '04.
Can't say I'm a fan of that wood Nardi wheel in a 996 either. I just don't think it would look right on your car.
Maybe see if you can find a used 3-spoke 996 wheel? Standard 2002 and later, optional on the MkI's. And no issues with the airbag light...
the early 99's (produced in 98) have amber's that are NOT removeable. The boxsters 986's have those also. You'll have to buy new headlights to get rid of those.
To use that steering wheel, you'll need adaptor/hub and airbag resistor. work bell i believe carry the correct parts.
geetee, every one says it's not removable however if you take a close look at the headlight you can see that the amber has clearly been painted/layered on to the bottom portion. You can fee the difference in thickness, lip, and clearly see where it fades out to clear. So I'm just curious if anyone has tried sanding them down partially to get to the clear area.
As for the 3 spoke OEM, I'm not a fan of the OEM 3 spoke. If anything I'll go with an OMP.
if you sand it down, you may be the first...if anyone would have done it, it would be the boxster guys and I don't remember anyone doing that. You can check with 986forums
Amberectomy is using a soldering iron to remove the under the headlight cover orange reflector modification. Know all about it as we use to do it all the time in the Audi community. This "amberectomy" on the 99 headlight will have to be done via sanding. Need to get a broken spare 986 headlight or 99 996 headlight to try sanding it down.
Purchased GT3 coilovers only to find out they don't come with the sway bar mounts so now need to figure out a way to make a a custom set. But slowly and surely getting things done. Figured out my flare situation, too.

- Fabspeed Muffler Bypasses (installed)
- Fabspeed Headers w/ OEM Gaskets (need to install)
- OEM GT3 Bilstein Coilovers
- Custom Adjustable Rear sway endlinks

Still need to buy:
