Suggestion
Probably not so in your case but, fwiw, when I had trouble with my ingition switch recenttly (replaced by dealer) I mentioned to them about some weird noise I thought was coming from the exhaust......in fact mentioned it on here and perhaps thought it might be a loose baffle........anyway, the dealer mentioned that a faulty ingition switch often leads to a jammed-on starter.

Another note - be prepared....you will bust the plastic fitting on the coolant line coming up from the water pump; replace with a brass fitting and some SS hose clamps
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have searched and cannot find a DIY. My starter fried today. Got home and it was still running when I turned the car off and started to smoke. Disconnect the battery STAT!
ANyone?
Thanks guys
Disconnect battery
Remove air filter box, unplug MAF
Disconnect all electrical plugs, throttle cable and remove throttle body
Remove center air plenum
Remove 12V cable to starter and starter solenoid cable
Take 3 Advil and have a beer
With enough extensions to reach the starter bolts, undo the starter bolts
Place some padding underneath the starter so it doesn't bang onto the engine block
Back the starter out slowly and carefully
Reassembly reverse order
Have another beer

I've not noticed the noise since replacing said switch.
Might want to check that out.
I was wondering about the ignition switch as well. I have a replacement I need to put in.
Thanks for the DIY I always forget to look there. I will post feedback once done
Thanks again gang
