When buying used I try not to let colors(interior or exterior) influence my buying decision.

Suggestion
I would consider changing the scraped up console to Black or same red from a breakers yard after an independent PPI.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Everyone.
Found a black 2001 996, with a full leather interior... a red leather interior. The center console is a little rough with scratches...
Whats your opinions on a red interior? I personally like black, but the car is priced low ($19k, with 44k miles...
thoughts?
Do not settle, do not compromise, do not rationalize yourself into WANTING/BUYING a car just because it is priced low.
You "personally like black" so keep looking.
Black leather normally wears the best. But, I do like the red. I have a black on black coupe which I like very much, but it can feel a little monochromatic at times. I think black over red would be very cool. I've seen the combination on other cars and it looks great - sort of bespoke or special. The nice thing about these cars is that they are at the bottom of their depreciation curve. Assuming you don't overpay for it, you can pretty much count on getting your money back when you sell. So if you buy one and decide you really need black interior, sell the red and turn around and buy black.
The most beautiful color combo Porsche I've owned was a brand new 944S Black with Red Lobster interior. Gorgeous and striking. It never faded, when I sold it at 250k miles it was still Lobster Red. I went with black floor mats and a Black steering wheel.
If you are even a little bit unsure, pass and get what you will love every time you open the door.
When buying used I try not to let colors(interior or exterior) influence my buying decision. Price and condition are everything. $19k and only 44k miles? If this car passed a PPI I'd buy it and learn to LOVE the red interior.
I think red interior and black car would look great with red wheels and mirrors ( which could be added) if you are struck on the actual car itself. The low mileage and how it performs would be a great factor if I was buying it. I would consider changing the scraped up console to Black or same red from a breakers yard after an independent PPI. Just my thoughts on the matter.
My '99 aero car is black w/ the Boxster Red interior. It came to me totally blacked out; dark tint and black aftermarket 19" wheels. For me, it's a little too "sinister" looking. Like Hurdi says above, red wheels and mirrors would add a lot to the car.
The red interior is a love or hate for everyone I talk with. For me, it's awesome. I also have a 2000 Boxster, silver w/ red interior, so I guess I'm kinda partial to the red interior color.
But - if it's not exactly what you want, take a pass. There are a ton of nice 996's in the world. You'll find the one that calls your name.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If you like it, go for it. If you're on the fence I would move on.
I am not a huge fan of the red interior. I can appreciate it, but it's not for me.
My biggest concern would be the possibility of it limiting potential resale. Red interiors are not for everyone.
Go with what you like or every time you get in the car it will drive you crazy. That said the color combo sounds beautiful. IMHO black interiors are too hot and too common. The red will standout from the crowd.
Red leather interior is a classic Porsche kind of thing. Some love it, some hate it. Personally, I think it looks great - especially with a silver car.
Turn the key and the color becomes rather irrelevant. Find a car that otherwise is in great shape, consider adding a bit of growl to the exhaust, and the rest will take care of itself.
I have a Flamenco Red (with black partial dash, steering wheel, carpet mats) interior in my Grandprix White 993. I love it because it doesn't scream too loudly. I have seen some other reds which are a bit brighter for my taste.
PS - $19k sounds low - keep some $ for IMS/Main Seal retrofit
