I replaced my brakes for the 2022 season and while I had everything apart I took the opportunity to paint the brake calipers.

Hey!
I am new to this forum and forums in general but I wanted to share my progress in personalizing my car.
I mostly drive my cars on the street so I want to strike a balance between looks and performance. My goal is an OE+ build that makes the car sharper and more visceral.
The car is a 2003 Porsche Carrera 2 Manual with the following options:
342 Heated Front Seats
411 18" Lt Alloy Carrera Wheel
446 Wheel Caps with Colored Crest
476 Porsche Stability Management
680 Bose High End Sound Package
AE Black Sport Seats
M6A Black Mats - Porsche lettering
P74 Xenon Headlamp Package
P77 Leather Sport Seats
X1 Arctic Silver Metallic
X54 Stainless Steel Exhaust Pipes
X70 Metal Door Sill Model Insignia
X76 Flared Rocker Panels
XLF Sport Exhaust System
XSC Porsche Crest in Headrest
Y06 Alum/Lthr Shifter/Brake Handle
Here are some photos of the car when I first got it.
Earlier this year (2021) I had purchased a 2009 Porsche Boxster PDK to replace a 2003 350Z that owned. I was desperately looking to get back into something German with more refinement. The Boxster surpassed my expectations. It was my first convertible and the sound of that flat six with the top down was incredible.
As I drove the Boxster I tried to convince myself that the PDK wasn't so bad. I told myself, " when you're in gear it drives exactly like a manual!". But I was only lying to myself. I needed to row through the gears to get enjoyment out of my drives.
Then, the right 911 manual became available to me at a price I could justify and I pulled the trigger without hesitation. I later wondered if I was making the right decision to get into even more car at a higher price point and if I would really enjoy it that much more. No doubt I absolutely did!
When I got the 911 home the first thing I did was swap the wheels from the Boxster. The wheels were originally off a 2011 911 C2 997.2. They are Carrera S ii wheels off that generation.
This was my first mod to the car.
Thank you! Glad you guys like the wheels!
The specs are

I won't be winter driving the car. It's just a Sunday driver for me
After a few weeks of owning the car I had a few things I wanted to get sorted. One thing that bothered me was on the front of the car there was an PPF that was quite old and starting to look weathered. I imagine the clear wrap was installed when the car was almost new and had been slowly drying out ever since. By now the film was cracking and a bit yellowed from UV light. The part that caught my eye the most was the section around the top of the headlights so I decided I would remove it.
Because of how old it was it became very brittle and did not come off easily. It took me around 4-5 hours to remove the two small sections around the headlights. Here are some photos of the before and after.
Here I was part way through removing the film on the driver's side

I'm a sucker for Wheels. You should see my pile. I have to admit I do like the genuine minimalism and simplicity of the five spoke wheels. 19 in is ok. yours look nice. 18s are quicker and look it.
Good job getting that film off. Looks like a hassle. Congrats on your car.
Thanks for the comments everyone! I appreciate you following the build.
The next item I modified on the car was the shifter. I found the throws were quite long and sloppy. Far from the gated shifter feel I am hoping for.
To fix that I installed a short shift kit I got off ebay and a shift **** out of a 997. I don't have the best photos of this but you will get the idea.
The result was a huge improvement in shifter feel. Probably the best mod you can do for these cars. The throws are now much shorter and have a hard metal stop when you place it in any gear.
Purchased this Catless Xpipe from FVD Brombacher. I am very impressed with the build quality. Excellent workmanship for the price! Can't wait to hear the sound.
Adding to the exhaust setup are equal length headers. I am really excited to hear how the sound will change. Waiting until spring to get all the exhaust installed in one shot.
Nice and clean build. I ran a catless x-pipe on my car for about 1 month before I had to take it off. Not sure on if you upsized the piping diameter but it was insanely loud and very exotic sounding.. fun at higher speeds but get ready to annoy your neighbours. I did have it paired with a fister mod though. The main problem was it also lost drivability. Low end torque disappeared and the car would actually stumble on load at very low rpm (think stop and go traffic) - the upside being being a noticeable power increase after 4000rpm. Get ready for a CEL and a strong gas smell as well... Given you're pairing it with headers you may want to reconsider adding 200 cell cats.
Ok that's good to hear! My neighbours have had more than their fair share of rowdy late nights so I'm sure they won't mind a few early cold starts haha!
I do have the sport exhaust that was an option on the car from the factory. The mufflers are electronically valved with a button in the interior to toggle. So if I am not feeling so devious I can always quiet it down a bit by closing the valves.
Thanks for the feedback regarding the CEL. I am considering the O2 spacers to start and then EVOMSit tune down the road.
I know what he is saying on sound. It is certainly not quite. Its actually quite loud when on throttle. But, just idling around in the neighborhood isn't too bad at all.
It smells. There are no cats. It is what it is. People comment on it all the time when they are following me.
CEL. You need spacers or you will get codes. There is nothing around this.
Flatspot in the curve: Yes. Before the tune it was certainly a little flat under certain RPM in the lower parts of the rev range. I had the car tuned and it pulls great, has a lot of throttle response, and overall feels amazing now. The tune really made a noticeable difference.
BTW, the sport exhaust and the fisters are basically the same idea based on what I was told, so you will have a similar sound as mine with the valves open. But, I don't have headers. I don't know how that will change the sound in your application.
Mine stunk to high heaven. The sound wasn't so bad off throttle. The smell however was eventually embarrassing, like going to a party with stinky bad toots, so kinda actually felt guilty selling it. I would like to know how well performance cats work. Might try those at some point.
Ditto - little to no smell with 200 cell cats. The sound was considerably muted with the cats though. If you like being loud you'd probably prefer catless. As others have stated, fine off throttle but on throttle is obnoxious particularly above 3500rpm. Pairing it with a set of headers you will likely need a tune as the car will choke at low load with no back pressure.
I replaced my brakes for the 2022 season and while I had everything apart I took the opportunity to paint the brake calipers. The calipers were black when I purchased the car. I originally thought the car was spec'd this way from the factory but once I had the brakes apart I could see signs that they were painted by a previous owner after the fact. This discovery was honestly a bit of a relief since I now didn't feel bad about changing the car from its factory form. I decided to paint the calipers yellow because come on. It looks unreal on a silver car! Have a look!
Took mine out yesterday for a spin (Central MA) and the cover is off for the season. The only challenge is avoiding the potholes that are everywhere!
Question - why the 2X4 behind the rear wheel?
That's awesome! Oh ya it's the same thing here. So many potholes everywhere! Gonna be a slalom trying to get it anywhere. The 2x4 is just there as a wheel chock in case the parking brake let go. Pretty unnecessary but hey why not. I don't usually put anything behind the wheels during the summer when I park it.
Finally got the car out for some photos of the painted calipers. I am really happy with the results.
I also had the headers and X-pipe installed. I have some cellphone videos I will post.
Thanks! Driveability is great. No issues at all. The setup is surprisingly quiet at idle and when cruising. It wakes up a bit when under load. At wide-open throttle it absolutely screams! Exactly what I wanted.
I went with their catless X-pipe for PSE mufflers. Here is the link on their website.

The headers are equal length off ebay. Something like this

The build is coming along with a new GT3 Cup front lip. I purchased it off the FVD Brombacher website.
I'm really happy with the look. It completely transforms the base bumper and dresses up the front end quite well.
The car is now lowered on Ceika 1M coilovers. They were installed before putting the car away last winter so I have been running on them all summer. I am really happy with the result. The car looks and drives amazing!
I also installed some really nice Rennline perforated pedals I received as a gift on my birthday from a good friend. It really sets off the interior. The pedals match really well with the Function First shift ****.
