Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Im very perplexed by a low squeak coming from my rear brakes only when slowing down (not at full brake pressure). If I break hard theres no noise. Pads seem ok upon visual inspection. Anyone else experience anything similar? Could it be the discs themselves?

Theres a lot back there that can generate noises, including half shafts (CV joints), brake calipers, loose wheels, suspension, etc. The pads can squeal for sure if they are performance pads and dont have heat in them. If you perform a couple repeat hard stops does an easy stop also remain quiet? That rules out pads. It could also be a wheel bearing issue, either a bearing on the way out, or a bearing that needs to be retightened.

Thank yo so much for the suggestions. I'm going to have a look at these and will also have it checked by my local indy shop to make sure I cover all my bases. I'll report back in case anyone else experiences similar things in the future.

Brakes squeel all the time on cars, y perplexed?. The pads u made up of a few different materials and as the wear thet can make noise. My race pads make a ton of noise at light peddle. Visual inspection on the pads means nothing, How old r the pads, pad brand, rotor age and brand. The easiest and cheapest attempt at eliminating the noise is to just swap the pads and make sure the factor dampers r still there.

There, I fixed it for ya Coussa, are you running non-stock wheels? They can make a factory set-up go squealy too. It is al about harmonics and whether the stick-slip that occurs between pad and disk (only) at low speed hit a frequency that is the resonance frequency of a part big enough for you to hear it when it starts resonating. At higher brake pressures and/or speeds the stick-slip doesn't hit a resonance and you hear nothing. Porsche themselves made this video to explain it in an effort to have their customers understand and accept it You Tube

I have the stock wheels but with 23mm spacers. I will report back once my indy takes a look at this and we know for sure what may have caused it.

POST 7Original post

Many times brake squeal occurs at low pressures when you're rolling up on the very tail end of a stop, and the pads are very lightly kissing/vibrating against the discs as you release them. The best way to eliminate brake squeal is to make sure your pads are properly bedded, as described in the videos below: You Tube You Tube
