Suggestion · Original poster

The blower motor is a little tricky to replace but a "walk in the park" compared to replacing the resistor - because the resistor is positioned high up in the dash behind the passenger side airbag and the module that controls the airbag.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello everyone, When I took my 2001 996 Cabrio with 48k miles out of storage early this spring, I noticed a delay in the time it took for the interior heater/blower motor fan to "kick in" and respond to my selection of either a higher or lower fan speed. After the car ran for 5 minutes, the fan "kicked in" and everything operated normally and there was quick response to my lowering or increasing the fan speed. I've read on these forums that the normal life span of the interior fan/blower motor and the resistor that controls fan speed is about 10-15 years. So, I set about replacing both the resistor and the interior blower motor. The blower motor is a little tricky to replace but a "walk in the park" compared to replacing the resistor - because the resistor is positioned high up in the dash behind the passenger side airbag and the module that controls the airbag. Despite the gymnastic maneuvers required, I succeeded in replacing both the motor and the resistor. Here's the problem, the fan still doesn't "kick in" until the car is running for about 5 minutes. Just as before, even though there is an initial delay in the fan coming after 5 minutes, everything functions normally after 5 minutes. Anyone know or have thought sbaout what could be causeing the fan delay? Could it be something as simple as the fan switch? Would appreciate any comments. Stl-Joe
