Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

20 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I just did a real boner thing...my battery is dead, so I took it out and went and picked up a replacement, and not thinking, I shut the hood! How in the world do I open it now that I don't have a battery in there? I have a 2003 996 C4 Cab. Thanks for all of your help in advance...

POST 2Original post

there is a battery terminal by the fuse box in the driver left footwell. hook up your battery to it w a booster cable and you should be able to open the trunk via the switch.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Do I press the black button to the bottom left of the switch, or do I just push the regular opener in the door sill? Thanks!

POST 5Original post

Isn't there also a mechanical cable in the right fender well?

POST 6Original post

Once the jumper is attached you just hit the regular trunk release.

POST 7Original post

You've applied power to your car thru the fuse...you should just be able to push the regular button.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I got it guys...thanks for all of your help!!!

POST 10Original post

ToolPants...that was my trick...food in the trunk on SuperBowl sunday, mechanical trunk release, not electronic.....food stayed in there three days till I finally had to take off the front bumper to get at the latch. Now I know where all the backup emergency release wires are. Hard lesson.

POST 11Original post

I had a similar problem a cpl months ago, except my battery was completely dead. did some research on this forum found out that all I had to do was hook up my new battery to one of those fuse terminals, let it sit for a few minutes then my hood opened...I was so happy

POST 12Original post

I have posted this occasionally (when the subject comes up) since I found it on RennTech the first few days I had my car ..... 4 years ago. It has saved me. When you have a little time on your hands, follow drivers' manual instructions and remove your pax side headlight. In that void, you will find the wire/manual release running to the front latch. With the headlight out of the way, it is easy to reroute it from behind the right front wheel well liner to behind your bumper. From there, route it through the hole for the tow hook .... and out the front of the car. Use a piece of small wire to attach the pull loop to the back of the bumper plug. Reinsert plug. Next time you have a hood emergency, just pop out the plug, fish out the wire loop and pull to pop the hood.

POST 13Original post

That alone would make me a member! You rennlist people rock!

POST 14Original post

Don't forget to attach the negative to the door latch and leave the key in the door lock....alarm may sound, if so, just turn the key to disable (don't ask why I know this one..) Good luck

POST 15Original post

I've got a similar problem as NC996. My battery is completely dead. I tried to open the hood using a spare battery connected to the fuse panel and door, but forgot to leave the key iin the door and couldn't turn off the alarm. I've repeat the procedure several times starting with putting the key in the door and then connecting the battery but still can't turn the alarm off. Any more suggestions?

POST 16Original post

On my 07 Cayman, I took the drivers side marker light off and see a yellow cable. Can someone confirm that is the emergency hood latch cable before I yank on it? I tried pulling on it with a wire coat hanger but its not budging. Thanks in advance....!!

POST 17Original post

Yellow cables are usually airbag wires don't pull too hard! Look for a thin stainless cable on the right side.

Put the key in the ignition and turn it. When everything is working right, with a good battery, and you use the key to open the door you have ~10 seconds to get it into the ign before the alarm goes off.

POST 19Original post

I did all that and it worked, now the hood won't shut! Anybody have a clue to fixing that problem?

POST 20Original post

either the struts or if its the locking mechanism, maybe the hood actuator? i actually had a hood actuator fail with dairy products in the frunk on football sunday hahaha.... agreed above. HARD lesson learned to search for the release cable in the right fender when I was a noob.
