I didn't take too many pictures but did take one of the end of the line after it was cleaned.
Leading evidence: 'Clean i didn't take too many pictures' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check autoatlanta's parts diagram' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

To remove the black outer coating I used a razor blade and gently scraped/sliced it off.

Suggestion
Not to be nit picky or anything, but that tool is for checking the screw together power steering couplings with the wire basket locks to see if the wire locks are holding properly.

I did this once and now I have forgotten the correct method to disconnect the line.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Changed out power steering pump the other day. Fought the return line grommet getting the line disconnected. Pretty sure I may have boogered it up a bit. Can you buy just the red plastic grommet? I have searched the various forums and online and cannot find a part number for it. I really don't want to spend $$$ for a new lower reservoir to replace a 10 piece of plastic. Any help would be appreciated.
Not availible from Porsche without buying the reservoir, but you can match up the o-ring and get it, and I'll bet you can scour through the VW parts catalogs and find it that red locking piece separately..
Im having the same issue. I pulled my connector apart this summer and mine is leaking too. I really wish it wasnt do hard to reach. I guess ill watch this thread and worst case ill pull the o-ring and have my local hydro shop match it up.
I did this once and now I have forgotten the correct method to disconnect the line. Porschetech, can you please remind us what the sequence of events and tools are needed? Do you push in with a tool? Do you insert a claw and lever out?
Sure, you insert the tool between the red lock piece and the metal bump/stop on the metal hose. Push the red lock piece inward while pulling the metal hose outward.
The tool is very similar to door panel tools, just a forked tool barely large enough to fit over the metal diameter. Can be made easily from a 1/8 flat bar/plate with a notch cut out.
So it looks like the end of the line is a bit boogered up. The teflon? coating on the outside of the line is peeling off and my guess would be it wasn't sealing inside the o-ring. Going to see if I can clean it up a bit and get it to seal. Also going to replace the o-rings. I pulled 2 o-rings out. Is that normal or is there only supposed to be one?
You got a smoking deal !!
Anytime you can buy something branded by Porsche or Snap-On for $15 it's a deal..... a 1/2 ratchet will cost you $150..
OP, I think there is only 1 o-ring that goes in there, certainly not two different materials.
Looks like you buggered up the metal line pretty good, may end up having to replace it.
Not to be nit picky or anything, but that tool is for checking the screw together power steering couplings with the wire basket locks to see if the wire locks are holding properly. It may also work for releasing the quick connector, like I said pretty much any forked tool will do.
So i pulled mine apart today and the is deffinately supposed to be 2 o-rings behind the red clip. The black is closet to the red bushing and the green is against the resi housing. U can see on mine the green o-ring is damaged. Ill be heading to the hydraulic shop on monday and have them measure up what i need. I can get a few i u need me to send u some. The tube on mine is also very rough at the tip. I may replace it or just sand it down. Im sure this is what cut the o-ring.
Also a pic of the tool i made. Scrap alum, 7/16 hole, slotted it open with the grinder and tapered the end so it would slide between the rub in the tube and red bushing. Took less the 5 min to make.
Edit: well at $207-260 for the line i think ill try to repair the tip.
Sorry for the late reply guys. I have been really busy at work with a few projects and have had limited time.
So I cleaned up the end of my line with some very fine sand paper so as not to remove too much metal after the black outer coating was removed. I wanted to make sure it was smooth so that it sealed properly. To remove the black outer coating I used a razor blade and gently scraped/sliced it off. I rolled a piece of shop towel and inserted it into the line to prevent any debris from getting into the system. When I removed the red retainer and inserted the two o-rings I noticed that there was space for a THIRD o-ring. I put in a third as well, made sure they were lubricated, and inserted the line (after reinstalling the power steering pump). I drove my car 4 days this week to and from work which is about 90 miles round trip and no leaks. I am monitoring the line (have a borescope I can squeeze in there to look) and the fluid level in the reservoir. The line is dry so far and the fluid level has not changed for the last 400 miles. Fingers crossed this has fixed it.
If for some reason I start having problems again I am going to do an electric power steering pump conversion. I didn't take too many pictures but did take one of the end of the line after it was cleaned. I hope this helps anybody in the future and thank you guys for all of the input. It is great to have a source of knowledge and other enthusiasts ready to help.
I finally got back to the car today. I cleaned up the tube with 400 and 600 grit sand paper, put the 2 new o-rings in and after the first test drive it appears to be leak free. My inspection camera is not working but i was able to get mirror in there to see the bottom of the tube and it was dry. Ill keep an eye on it but i think its fixed.
I also found that the black washer was the first out. The green one was the deepest inside. The next question is where to source them. The parts diagram does not show them.
Any ideas?
